Brakes - Front 326mm Disc Brake Squeal

Squeal from Front Brakes - 326mm Brake Discs Only



AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:



CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation: On vehicles fitted with standard brakes (326mm /1 2.8in front brake discs) only, a squeal noise from the front brakes may be evident at



low speed and when completing a stop.



Cause: This may be caused by a brake caliper anchor and housing vibration.



Action: In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined to install a front brake caliper spring shim kit to



each front brake caliper.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSTALL FRONT BRAKE CALIPER SHIM KIT



1. A WARNING: Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.



Refer to Workshop Manual section 204-04 and remove the right front wheel.



2. Note the two contact areas between the front brake caliper spring and the front brake caliper anchor bracket.



3. WARNING: Take care when removing the spring.



CAUTION: Removal of the clips is a delicate procedure; damage will occur if any force is used.



NOTE: Note the installed position of the component prior to removal.



NOTE: Left-hand shown; right-hand similar.



Using a suitable tool, carefully remove the front brake caliper spring.



Release the two clips.



4. CAUTION: Make sure that the contact areas between the front brake caliper spring and the front brake caliper anchor bracket are clean and free



from debris.



Install the shims to the front brake caliper anchor bracket.



a) Clean the contact area.



b) Remove the backing tape.

c) Apply suitable pressure to the shim until adhesion is achieved.



d) Repeat the above steps a-c for the other shim.



5. CAUTION: Make sure that the contact areas between the front brake caliper spring and the front brake caliper are clean and free from debris.



Install the front brake caliper spring. Clean the contact areas.



6. CAUTION: Make sure that the contact areas between the front brake caliper spring and the front brake caliper anchor bracket are clean and free



from debris.



Install the shim to the front brake caliper spring.



a) Using a suitable tool, reposition the center of the front brake caliper spring approximately 1 mm away from the front brake caliper.



b) Carefully insert the shim in between the front brake caliper spring and the front brake caliper.



c) Align the shim with the outline of the front brake caliper spring.



d) Reposition the front brake caliper spring to the installed position.



7. Refer to Workshop Manual section 204-04 and install the right front wheel and tire.
