Model Year: 2010-2012

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

A noise may be evident from the Panoramic roof opening panel while driving over uneven surfaces.

NOTE:

To ensure there are no noises from the Panoramic roof, it is necessary to allow the Panoramic roof to move with the body as it twists rather

than try to constrain it as per the current design. For this reason, it has been determined that certain fixings should be rigid and others should

be free to slip. Where rigid joints are required, additional fixings have been supplied and the current fixings must be checked for correct

torque levels. Where free to slip, washers are required to prevent noise, but it is also important not to over-torque the fixings. Follow the

Repair Procedure outlined below to complete this procedure.

This may be caused by movement in the Panoramic roof joints when torsional inputs are applied to the vehicle, resulting in a stick! slip condition of

the joints. This stick / slip condition may result in noise generation.

Action:

In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to repair the Panoramic roof.

Model Year: 2010-Onwards

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

The fluid level in the engine coolant system expansion tank may fall below the minimum level over a period of time or a Low coolant level message

is displayed in the message center. Upon inspection, a leak may be found to be from the front of the engine-driven coolant pump together with

excessive wear of the coolant pump bearing.

NOTE:

The coolant pump can display some dry coolant residue on the pump body and surrounding area during normal operation. A small amount of coolant

may temporarily weep through the pump seals or from the evaporation chamber. This does not affect the operation of the pump or the cooling system

and does not damage the coolant pump. A small amount of dry coolant residue on the pump body, pulleys, belts, or around the front of the engine is

not alone sufficient justification for changing a coolant pump.

Cause:

This may be caused by coolant ingress into the coolant pump bearing housing, leading to corrosion of the bearing and incorrect support for the

impeller shaft, leading to accelerated wear of the mechanical flat-face of the seal and a coolant loss sufficient to display the warning message.

Action:

In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.

1. NOTE: Acceptable Coolant Pump Witness Marks

Check the coolant pump for witness marks before continuing.

^ Note the severity of any witness marks on the repair order.

2. Check the expansion tank level and message center for a low coolant warning; record on the repair order.

^ If there is low coolant in the expansion tank and or a low coolant message from the message center, continue to next step.

^ If a leak is located this must be claimed as a separate claim.

3. Top up the coolant to the correct level.

4. NOTE: A 1.0-1.5 PSI pressure drop is normal, and does not indicate a system leak. An air leak may also be present in the pressure test

equipment.

Carry out a cooling system pressure test to 1 bar (15 PSI) pressure test the system for 5 minutes.

^ Record the pressure drop (if any) on the repair order.

^ If there is a cooling system pressure drop of more than 1.5 PSI, then investigate the system for fresh wet leaks and record on a repair order.

A UV light may be helpful as there is a UV dye in the coolant.

SECTION: 501

Safety Recall: Wiper Arm Securing Nut Check

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

A concern has been identified with certain 2010 - 2011 model year Jaguar XJ vehicles whereby the wiper arm securing nuts may suffer torque

relaxation as a result of an insufficiently controlled vehicle manufacturing assembly process.

Torque relaxation of the securing nut could potentially result in loss of wiper arm synchronization which can cause a clash of the wiper arms. If the

wiper arms lose synchronization and clash, they could detach from the vehicle and, in certain circumstances, the driver's forward vision could be

impaired.

Action:

Dealers are required to HOLD all affected new vehicles in your control and withhold them from onward distribution and sale pending completion of

the rework action. Refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to check and tighten the windshield wiper arm securing nut to the correct torque.

For vehicles in dealer inventory, this Recall action should be performed as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) and be completed prior to

vehicle handover to the customer. Vehicles already in the hands of owners will be subject to the standard owner notification process.

For Recall notification details, refer to Service Bulletins 7-64CAN and 7-64USA.

WARRANTY:

NOTE:

Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle is affected by this Recall Action or any other Service Action prior to undertaking any repair as

some vehicles may have been repaired in port. DDW reflects only those vehicles affected and un-repaired.

NOTE:

All Jaguar Vehicles

CONDITION SUMMARY:

INTERPRETATION OF GLASS DAMAGE SYMPTOMS

Situation:

This information only bulletin has been issued to aid dealers to determine whether windshield damage has been caused by an outside influence, or a

manufacturing concern.

Action:

Follow the steps outlined in the Repair Procedure to determine whether windshield damage has been the result of outside damage.

PARTS:

Information only

WARRANTY:

NOTE:

The following offer illustrations of common windshield damage conditions and how to determine if the damage is a result of outside

influences (not warrantable) or of manufacturing problems (warrantable)

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.

Service Information

Diagnosis

1. Clean damaged windshield area.

2. Perform visual inspection for signs of impact. Low impact damage will appear as a small point along a single crack and can be confirmed by

the pen test (see step 6). Moderate impact damage will appear as multiple cracks radiating from a point. High impact damage appears as many

cracks radiating from the impact area.

3. If visual inspection and pen test do not show surface damage point a flashlight at a 45 degree angle along the cracks in the black painted area

of the windshield (see illustration E80543 in step 7).

4. Look for radial cracks similar to illustration E80544 (step 8).

5. If radial cracks are present then cracks are caused by a stone impact and are not warrantable.

6. Slowly run the tip of a ballpoint pen along the crack. If there is an impact present the tip will catch in the depression caused by the impact.

Examples of Damaged Windshields Caused by Stone Impact

60

7. Flashlight test.

8. View from outside using flashlight (radial cracks). Several radial cracks emanate from origin point.

9. Low impact resulting in single crack.

61

10. Moderate impact resulting in several cracks.

11. High impact resulting in many cracks.

Examples of Damaged Windshields Caused by Stone Impact at the Black Paint Area

NOTE:

The three examples below all show evidence liking to stress cracking. This must be confirmed using the ballpoint pen test previously

described (in step 6) before any claim is made. Claims subsequently found to be caused by small stone damage will be rejected.

12. Crack along cowl.

62

13. Crack along roof line.

14. Crack along A-pillar.

Examples of Windshield Defect Covered by Warranty

NOTE:

Warrantable items include imperfections in glass manufacturing and factory assembly such as: distortion delamination spalling bubbles

visual flaws between windshield layers and stress cracks.
