WORKSHOP MANUAL CHANGES FOR REPLACING THE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR

This bulletin has been issued to inform dealers of a GTR Workshop Manual change that provides specific conditions that must be met before

replacing the power steering reservoir.

Situation:

Currently the vehicle workshop manual stipulates that the power steering reservoir must be replaced when the power steering gear, power steering

pump or power steering cooler are being replaced.

Action:

Jaguar chassis engineering has determined that the reservoir will only require replacement when certain conditions are met. Refer to the Repair

Procedure detailed in this bulletin to determine if the reservoir requires replacement.

NOTE:

If the power steering gear, pump or cooler are being replaced for leakage or noise related issues and there is no evidence of fluid

contamination, the reservoir should not be replaced.

Procedure to determine power steering fluid contamination may be found in GTR section 211-00, Diagnosis and Testing, Power Steering

System Fluid Condition Check.

1. Replace the power steering reservoir only if any of the following conditions apply:

^ Reservoir bottle housing is split

^ Reservoir bottle port is crushed

^ Fluid is grossly contaminated with particulate matter, which may or may not result in a loss of function from the power steering system.

2. If particulate contamination is observed, but the steering system functions normally, drain the fluid from the system, replace the reservoir, and

flush the steering system completely with fresh fluid.
