Engine Coolant Leak at Coolant Pump



AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



The fluid level in the engine coolant system expansion tank may fall below the minimum level over a period of time or a Low coolant level message



is displayed in the message center. Upon inspection, a leak may be found to be from the front of the engine-driven coolant pump together with



excessive wear of the coolant pump bearing.



NOTE:



The coolant pump can display some dry coolant residue on the pump body and surrounding area during normal operation. A small amount of coolant



may temporarily weep through the pump seals or from the evaporation chamber. This does not affect the operation of the pump or the cooling system



and does not damage the coolant pump. A small amount of dry coolant residue on the pump body, pulleys, belts, or around the front of the engine is



not alone sufficient justification for changing a coolant pump.



Cause:



This may be caused by coolant ingress into the coolant pump bearing housing, leading to corrosion of the bearing and incorrect support for the



impeller shaft, leading to accelerated wear of the mechanical flat-face of the seal and a coolant loss sufficient to display the warning message.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE



NOTE:



The coolant pump can display some dry coolant residue on the pump body and surrounding area during normal operation. A small amount



of coolant may temporarily weep through the pump seals or from the evaporation chamber. This does not affect the operation of the pump



or the cooling system and does not damage the coolant pump. A small amount of dry coolant residue on the pump body, pulleys, belts, or



around the front of the engine is not alone sufficient justification for changing a coolant pump.

1. NOTE: Acceptable Coolant Pump Witness Marks



Check the coolant pump for witness marks before continuing.



^ Note the severity of any witness marks on the repair order.



2. Check the expansion tank level and message center for a low coolant warning; record on the repair order.



^ If there is low coolant in the expansion tank and or a low coolant message from the message center, continue to next step.



^ If a leak is located this must be claimed as a separate claim.



3. Top up the coolant to the correct level.



4. NOTE: A 1.0-1.5 PSI pressure drop is normal, and does not indicate a system leak. An air leak may also be present in the pressure test



equipment.



Carry out a cooling system pressure test to 1 bar (15 PSI) pressure test the system for 5 minutes.



^ Record the pressure drop (if any) on the repair order.



^ If there is a cooling system pressure drop of more than 1.5 PSI, then investigate the system for fresh wet leaks and record on a repair order.



A UV light may be helpful as there is a UV dye in the coolant.



^ If there is fresh wet coolant dripping from the pump - this indicates a leak. Coolant residue is normal and does not indicate a leak.



5. If no leak is found starting the engine from cold, listen for unusual noise (moaning, groaning, rumbling, grinding); record results on the repair



order.



6. Stop the engine; slacken the FEAD belt tensioner and slip the FEAD belt to one side.



7. Hold the coolant pump pulley firmly and rock it up and down by hand.



^ Feel for excessive play.



^ Rotate the pulley 1/4 turn and repeat the rocking motion a few times.



^ Record results on the repair order.



8. Spin the pulley and feel for roughness.



^ Record results on the repair order.



9. If there is excessive play in the pulley bearing, refer to Workshop Manual section 303-03 and replace the coolant pump; to be carried out as a

Antitheft Sys - Veh. Won't Unlock/Eng. No Start With Remote Fob

Vehicle will not Unlock with Remote Key Fob / Engine will not Start



AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:



CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



The vehicle may not unlock with the remote key fob and / or the engine may not start when attempting to start the engine using the Stop/Start button.



When this occurs, the Smart key not found message is not displayed and the engine will not start with the remote key fob in the failsafe starting



position.



Cause:



This may be caused by component tolerances within the Central Junction Box (CJB) preventing correct functionality during engine start attempts.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE



1. Check that the battery is correctly charged (see battery care manual), has good connections to the vehicle, and that the transit relay has been



removed.



2. CAUTION: SDD must be loaded with DVD131.09 v.120 later.



Connect a Jaguar-approved battery conditioner/power supply to the vehicle.



3. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.



4. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.



5. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.



6. Select the 'Selected Symptoms' tab, and then select one of the following:

^ Body > Security and locking > Handles locks and latches or



^ Powertrain > Engine system > Starting system > Will not start > Will not crank



7. Identify fault codes related to the starting system and diagnose as required.



8. Does the CJB have correct power and ground connections?



^ Record voltages at:



a. CJB Connector C3BP01D: pin numbers 16, 20, 21, 22 (12V)



b. CJB Connector C3BP01D: pin numbers 05, 25 (0V)



^ If any of the readings are incorrect, investigate and rectify if necessary before proceeding to step 9.



9. Check the operation of the hazard lamps:



^ If the hazard lamps do not operate outside the vehicle, continue to step



^ If the hazard lamps do operate outside the vehicle, do NOT continue; further diagnosis will be required to



identify the failure mode.



10. NOTE: Prior to performing the following instructions, ensure a new Central Junction Box (CJB) is available for the vehicle.



NOTE: All the vehicle keys need to be present before continuing.



CAUTION: SDD must be loaded with DVD131.09 v.120 later.



Refer to Workshop Manual section 418-00 and replace Central Junction Box (CJB).



If the IDS and battery power supply have been removed, connect a Jaguar-approved battery conditioner/power supply to the vehicle.



11. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.



12. Follow the on-screen prompts, manually enter the VIN and initiate the data collection sequence.



13. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.



14. Select the 'Selected Symptoms' tab, and then select one of the following:



^ Body - Security and locking > Handles locks and latches or



^ Powertrain > Engine system > Starting system > Will not start > Will not crank



15. Select the Recommendations tab.



16. Read one of the SSMs listed to expose the Extras tab.



17. NOTE: When asked if a new CJB has been installed, select the 'X' and then continue with the SDD procedure. SDD will now attempt to



communicate with the new CJB to "extract" data. This is an expected result.



Select Run to perform the 'Configure new modules - Body control module' application.



18. NOTE: During the routine, the CJB will have several applications performed: Immobilization routine to enable security; software download to



load the latest level of software; CCF download to store the vehicles data to the new module; key programming routine; key validation routine;



and a fault code clear. Ensure all of the above applications complete successfully. If at any time a failure is m encountered, you will be required



to start the process over in entirety from step 17.



Continue with the SDD routine by following all on-screen prompts, including performing the software download. Do not skip the software



download routine.



19. Select the Recommendations tab.



20. Select Run to perform the Body System - Variable assist power steering curves application.



21. Follow all on screen prompts to complete this task.



22. Select the Service Function tab.

23. Select 'Run' to perform the Body system - Steering column calibration application.



24. Follow all on-screen prompts to complete this task.



25. When all tasks are complete, exit the current session by selecting the Session tab and then select the Close Session option.



26. Disconnect the IDS and battery charger/power supply.



27. Ensure correct operation of all vehicle systems before delivery back to the customer.

Lighting - Erratic Front Overhead Console Lamp Operation

Front Overhead Console Lamps do not Operate as Expected



AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:



XF (X250) VIN: R00019-S34279



Model Year: 2009-2012



CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



The front overhead console lamps may not operate as expected.



Cause:



This may be caused by issues within the printed circuit board (PCB) in the lamp assembly.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below.



PARTS



TOOLS:



Refer to Workshop Manual / Repair Procedure for any required special tools



WARRANTY



REPAIR PROCEDURE



1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 501-12 (steps 1 and 2 only) and remove the front overhead console lamp assembly.



2. WARNING: The pink bubble wrap that is used for packaging may be used as a work mat.



NOTE:



Make sure no damage is caused when removing the electrical connectors.

Disconnect the two electrical connectors.



3. NOTE: Some items removed for clarity.



Move aside the black plastic cover.



4. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when un-clipping the small printed circuit boards.



Using a suitable tool, un-clip the three small printed circuit boards.



5. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when un-clipping the electrical connector.



Using a suitable tool un-clip the electrical connector.

^ Release the two securing clips.



6. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when removing the printed circuit board.



Remove the main circuit board.



7. NOTE: Make sure all the grease is removed from the electrical connectors.



Using a suitable clean cloth remove the grease on the three electrical connectors.



^ Using the wipe supplied in the kit make sure all the grease is removed from the electrical connectors.



8. CAUTION: When installing the rubber sleeves it is important not to damage or split them.

NOTE:



Install all three sleeves from the top.



Install the three rubber sleeves to the electrical connectors.



^ The rubber sleeves must be approximately 2-3 mm from the bottom of the electrical connector.



9. CAUTION: Prior to touching the new printed circuit boards it is advised that your hands are clean and you have earthed your body out by



touching the steel work bench.



Change over the three interior light bulbs from the old printed circuit board to the new printed circuit board.



10. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when installing the ne printed circuit board.



NOTE:



Locate the printed circuit boards into the four locating fixings before clipping the printed circuit board into position.



Install the new printed circuit board.



11. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when installing the three small printed circuit boards.



Install the three small printed circuit boards.



12. NOTE: Make sure the electrical ribbon is square in the connector, before it is fully engaged.

Make sure no damage is caused when installing the electrical connectors.



Connect the electrical connector.



^ Push in the two securing clips.



13. Install the black plastic cover.



14. NOTE: Make sure no damage is caused when installing the electrical connectors.



Connect the two electrical connectors.



15. Refer to Workshop Manual section 501-12 (steps 2 and 1 only) and install the front overhead console lamp assembly.



16. Verify front overhead console lamp operation.
