Tesla, TSLA & The Investment World: The 2019 Investors' Roundtable

Separate names with a comma. 60k EV, then bravo Ford and they should have said more about their motors and their batteries and their charging network, because the creamed Nissan, GM, Jag, Audi and Mercedes. According to arstechnica the bigger battery size needed for 300 miles of EPA range is 98.9kWh for the RWD configuration. That's Model X/S territory, which makes me wonder how are they making money selling the top trim for 60k? The larger pack is 98.9kWh, made from 12 modules of 376 cells. That's a lot of energy to play with, and Ford thinks that will be sufficient for 300 miles (482km) when fitted to a rear-wheel drive Mach E, which should go a long way to countering range anxiety. DC fast-charging one of those at 150kW should take the battery state of charge from 10 to 80% in 38 minutes. I wonder if everybody in that audience now gets to go pick up their free coupon for their breakfast at Denny鈥檚. I thought they attended for the free oil change and filter coupon but they only got a Denny's breakfast?

60k EV, then bravo Ford and they should have said more about their motors and their batteries and their charging network, because the creamed Nissan, GM, Jag, Audi and Mercedes. The price is on point for a newcomer. The efficiency is just like the rest. They are using 25kw more than Tesla to get the same done. Different cars. 300 miles is the LR RWD version of the car, 3.5 0-60 is the AWD GT version of the car. Well the Mustang Mach-E seems ok. The real question is what the Pinto Mach-E will be like. The Pinto Mach-E will have the battery pack behind the rear axle. Different cars. 300 miles is the RWD version of the car, 3.5 0-60 is the AWD GT version of the car. Really shows how inefficient the motors are. OK, having read the comments of the Mach-E reveal, one thing seems sorely missing. Did they say when you or I could actually buy one (not that educated EV consumers actually want one)? And did they say how many they will make next year (and the following year)?

Tesla collaboration because there was never a chance there would be Tesla collaboration on this one, despite this thread's collective lost mind this weekend. OK, having read the comments of the Mach-E reveal, one thing seems sorely missing. Did they say when you or I could actually buy one (not that educated EV consumers actually want one)? And did they say how many they will make next year (and the following year)? You have got to be kidding! So no immediate plans to make this widely available? And yet the specs are very yesteryear? Really shows how inefficient the motors are. Tesla collaboration because there was never a chance there would be Tesla collaboration on this one, despite this thread's collective lost mind this weekend. Just for the record, I also started there wouldn't be a collaboration because power train is the heart of an automaker's brand image. Just pointed out that IF there was one, then it would have proved our speculation about Maxwell being right.

These manufactures are all hitting an efficiency wall on motor design. Just couldn't get those magnets lined up like how Tesla is doing it as Munro speculated. I did like the exterior but if you take the Mustang logo off the grill, I would not recognize it as a Mustang. It was in the fine print. The fast one is mid-2021. Not as good as me. Or irrelevant. Who is "Robb Report"? Edit: I see. An American Lifestyle magazine. Is it popular/widely read? Just a minor correction: USA ! World. But yes, the pick-up market in the US is huge. Success will depend on 1, how crazy Elon got with the design (one key Tesla success factor was that their cars look like normal cars) 2, how quickly thy can start making them. PS: For instance the US and European new car market is roughly the same size (2018 US was 17.3M Europe was 15.6M), but about 8 of the European Top 10 would fit in the back of an F150.

Pickups are quite popular outside of Europe. The difference is outside of North America most pickups are compact with 4 cylinder diesel engines. Now that China is wealthier Ford has started to import Raptor Pickup Trucks into China. So, seems like this would put an end to F/Tesla partnership speculations. MNCs are not monogamous. That makes no sense! Elon Musk has not been shy about letting known his dislike of traditional auto-dealerships. Anyone who doesn't understand that probably shouldn't be investing in Tesla with real money. Anything Ford does selling rebadged Teslas, or Ford glyders with Tesla powertrains is additive to what Tesla does.Ditto for service. I doubt Elon minds a Model Y owner getting his vehicle serviced in rural Northern Michigan at a Ford dealer when there is no Tesla service center around and won't be for some time. In areas were there are Tesla and Ford dealerships around if Ford sucks as hard as you suppose at service they won't get any business from Tesla customers or owners of Ford rebadged Teslas. Competition takes care of this problem. I am sure some Ford dealers will step up and some won't.

Tesla, TSLA & The Investment World: The 2019 Investors' Roundtable

Separate names with a comma. SEC was based on cars, nobody has even thought about the solar side of Tesla, but now they will? Strictly speaking, Ford had a five or six billion dollar loan from the same program that Tesla borrowed from. Ford is still making payments (I believe it was for over 27 years). That's what kept them afloat because the EV that this money produced couldn't possibly have cost that much to develop. And if we really want to be persnickety you can easily make the argument that Ford owes it's current success to massive federal spending during WWII. I think Ford is a strong contender to be first to be completely wiped out by Tesla. Over 100% of Ford's valuation is the F-150. Autos have a lot of operating leverage so only a relatively small drop in revenues can quickly kill margins. A strong Pickup release from Tesla could very conceivably bankrupt Ford within 12 months of mass production.

I don't see that happening. Tesla couldn't possibly scale fast enough to put more than a dent in Ford truck sales. F series alone is like 900k a year, plus GM and Dodge sell nearly that. How long until Tesla could produce a million trucks a year? Is anywhere from zero to 1 car. Model 3s In inventory appear equally scarce. If I had the money, I'd upgrade to performance. I already got the full tax credit, maybe in a few years anyway. But then there's the truck. Sure wouldn't want to own a Hybrid. Been saying that since they came out - what a maintenance nightmare! Then I read this next quote and just started laughing out loud! The batteries in modern hybrids are designed to last for at least 100,000 miles. Some might even make it to 150,000 or more. If you're the original owner of a hybrid vehicle, chances are you won't ever have to replace the battery pack because it just wears out. Good news, they won't need a new battery - just junk the car when the battery dies.

Hybrids are doomed it seems. Price is just one reason. All those people wanting a new Tesla, demand will be crazy soon. I am going to laugh if we are in the 260鈥檚 next week. I'm already laughing. Solidly in the money on TSLA and lots of room to run. Oh hey, I just found one from the future. I would like to see at least one of these legacy automakers get nimble enough to survive the transition. How exactly is electric F-150 different from GM Bolt ? 23B loan just before the meltdown. CEO Mulally said as much. I don't see that happening. Tesla couldn't possibly scale fast enough to put more than a dent in Ford truck sales. F series alone is like 900k a year, plus GM and Dodge sell nearly that. How long until Tesla could produce a million trucks a year? Tesla doesn't have to sell a million trucks/year to put F out of business.

Tesla has already put a serious dent in sales of Ford's last remaining passenger vehicle, the Mustang. 4000 by mid-December. Is that a forecast? How about something I have more influence over, "Hey Lycanthrope, I hear you wife saying you drink too much beer?", "Yeah, I'm hoping to cut down". That's an even bigger nope. We all seem to be using different definitions. Equipment: Stamping presses, welding robots, paint shop, conveyors, forklifts, lifting systems, assembly robots. Stuff used to make the cars, but not specific to any particular model. Tooling: Stamping dies, certain jigs and other items specific to a particular model. Precision body dies dominate auto tooling cost. Tesla depreciates Building and Equipment over a fixed number of years, but depreciates tooling on "units of production" basis. Expected life is a million units for Model 3 tooling and 325k units for Model S/X tooling. S/X tooling was originally 250k units. That's based on how many they expected to build before a body design refresh dictated new tooling, i.e. it was an economic life vs. When they saw they could stick with the same body style past 250k units they changed the depreciation schedule.

Tesla, TSLA & The Investment World: The 2019 Investors' Roundtable

Tesla, TSLA & The Investment World: The 2019 Investors' Roundtable

Separate names with a comma. After all of the discussions around how option expiration and max pain is affecting the stock price, I've begun making some tools to visualize how the option market moves, but I'm struggling getting historical option data. Can anyone here hook me up? 鈥檚 going to be tough to get for free. You might very well turn out to be right - the good news is that in a few hours it will probably be over one way or another. I'll make a gentlemen's bet that there will be no collaboration between Ford and Tesla. I do wish Ford all the best in their EV launch, every EV regardless of manufacturer, is one less ICE on the road, and that is a good thing. For the record, I don't actually think F is partnering with TSLA. I expect the truck to have airless tires or else Elon is lion about the truck being bulletproof. I expect the truck to thrill hipsters around the world who won't be able to afford it, and to earn huge market share among people who actually do work (in the scientific, physics sense).

I expect a new trading range to be grasped for on Monday, Wednesday at the latest, and I expect to observe at a markedly different mystique and probably significantly different SP about the TSLA animal 2 weeks from now. Sorry about that. I didn't mean to start such a fruitful rumor. Tesla wants the Model E trademark, though Ford will spitefully make sure they don't get it. I forgot about that! But I would put that in the past-tense. Sorry about that. I didn't mean to start such a fruitful rumor. So, seems like this would put an end to F/Tesla partnership speculations. Preemptive crippling of the FUD narrative. I think Elon knows that enough people will love Cybertruck to keep Tesla busy for years. Nope. I'm not going to waste my time. To be truthful, I'm just sitting here stunned this morning. I feel like I have entered an alternate reality where reality doesn't really matter.

Tesla partnering with Ford? Why? This is ridiculousness. If Tesla and Ford partner, TSLA shares shoot to the moon? Why? They might go down with that kind of bearish news. Both of these ridiculous notions are rooted in the same fallacy, namely, that Ford has something that Tesla wants! Ford has absolutely NOTHING that Tesla wants! This is not going to happen. The specs and timelines Ford has released for their entry into mass-market EV's is a wish list, pure fantasy. I'm shocked people are still getting fooled by these desperate statements. Tesla wants but more importantly, every drive train Tesla make sold to Ford is one less ICE car shipped out of Ford. Tesla is the only company not dragging their feet. I can't believe you are starting to think Tesla is only a car company. I am rooting for power train partnership with anybody and everybody. That new eMustang IS ugly tho.

If you disagree that's not a differing opinion, you're actually WRONG. That new eMustang IS ugly tho. If you disagree that's not a differing opinion, you're actually WRONG. Model S and the original ModelX prototype looked similar and I argue is even more awful. That new eMustang IS ugly tho. I'm not just saying this as a Tesla fanboy. I mean, I like the styling of various other vehicles as well. But I agree with you on this one. I spent a couple of hours today trying to catch up with TMC which was possible only by skipping two pages at a time. It is somewhere between these two boundary conditions. With all deserved praise to Karen and FC and others too. A nice, clean, organic dopamine high. Thank God I was never offered nor would I imbibe in lysergic acid, because I'm already flaky about reality. Two fraternity brothers at MIT were part of Leary's original Harvard test when we were at MIT.

One had no behavioral reaction to the drug because his baseline behavior was already beyond bizarre. The literature foretells more than dopamine effects or vastly unpleasant ones. Like whatever acid the shorts spew. Not an advice, just a reminder about temperance and moderation. So, seems like this would put an end to F/Tesla partnership speculations. That article says nothing about an exclusive partnership between Ford and VW though, and Ford indeed partnered with Rivian as well. VW's MEB platform will arrive in the US in 2021 at the earliest - while the Mustang Mach E was announced with end of 2020 availability - so the timing doesn't match. Nor can VW's MEB platform produce the specs Ford announced. Ford might consider VW the more dangerous partner: VW isn't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. Ford might want to partner with a company they believe will be less dangerous to them in the future.
