2019 Ford Mach E To Start Around $40,000

2019 Ford Mach E To Start Around $40,000

The Ford Mach E has been a bit controversial. At first, Ford wanted to call it the Mach 1 and that didn鈥檛 sit well with Ford鈥檚 legions of Mustang fans. Ford kept the Mach part of the name and switched the EV to the Mach E moniker. Some alleged details about the car have surfaced. Ford has said that the car is expected to have a driving range of 300 miles per charge. The assumption is that the battery pack will be about 100 kWh to reach that range. 40,000 when it lands. We reported in the past that the production version of the Mach E is expected to land in 2020 with a concept landing this year. While the Mach 1 name was dropped to sooth Mustang fans, Ford is going to tie the design of the EV to the Mustang with the 2021 Mach E having Mustang-inspired design cues. Reports indicate that the design will feature the classic Mustang three-bar taillights and a fastback roofline. Since the car is an EV, it has no grille up front but will reportedly have a pony on the grille area. All-wheel-drive is expected with a pair of motors with one in the front and one in the rear.

The goal here was to rid the tires of debris and to build a little heat into the tread. The cylinder head temperature gauge indicated roughly 160 degrees. I lined up into the groove, Pre-Staged, and stopped. As you probably know, the quickest e.t. I grabbed the brake with my left foot, eased the throttle up to 1,500 rpm with my right foot, and carefully inched forward using the brake until the Stage beam was barely on. The tree dropped and I let the Mustang go, swapping feet in a quick, smooth fashion. The Mustang drove away clean, without so much as a bark from the Michelin tires. It transferred weight, the rear planted, and the 5.0L Coyote started to dance. The 4.69:1 First gear got the engine into the peak rev range quickly and 7,500 rpm came up fast. The computer banged Second with a notable peal from the tires, and the ten-speed鈥檚 tight gear spreads kept the revs in the meat of the powerband the entire run.

Unlike older autos, there鈥檚 no bog after the shifts, in fact the engine never drops below 6,000 rpm. The GT just revs and shifts, revs and shifts, revs and shifts. On this pass, I crossed the stripe in Sixth gear at 11.947 seconds at 119.25 mph. Holy cow, an 11 on our first try, it was really that easy. Weather conditions were indeed favorable, I recorded 57 degrees, barometric pressure of 30.10, and the humidity was super low for Florida (even in December) at 26 percent. This equated to a Density Altitude of just a few feet above sea level. There was also a slight cross/tailwind, maybe 5-8 mph. The Mustang handled the 1,500-rpm launch well, so for the next pass I cranked it up to 2,000 rpm. I know the Coyote likes rpm off the line, and I speculated that an increase would drop our e.t. The 60-foot time was marginally better than the first run (1.905 to 1.903) but the 330-time improved from a 5.198 to a 5.157. Quarter-mile time subsequently dropped to 11.898 and our trap speed was 118.82 mph. Naturally, my next move was more rpm off the line.

I waited roughly 30 minutes between runs to ensure the engine temp remained consistent, so at 11:20 am I slipped behind the wheel and went for another pass. The Mustang was easy to hold at 2,000, but 2,200 rpm caused the rear tires to overcome the brakes. I felt them beginning to spin so I backed off to 2,100, and when the tree flashed I let it go. The extra rpm produced the best 60-foot time of the morning (1.892) and the best e.t.- 11.868 at 119.05 mph. This was getting interesting. Next, I tried another 2,200 launch, but I botched the launch ,so I idled down track and came back for another try. The result was a slower 11.941 at 118.70 mph, then I ran 11.934 at 118.86 mph. With the test session coming to a close, we had one more shot to improve. We let the engine cool until the gauge showed 140 degrees of cylinder head temperature, and I dropped the rear tire pressure to 26 psi for good measure.

RE: Ford Mustang Mach-E Officially Unveiled

RE: Ford Mustang Mach-E Officially Unveiled

Unfortunately not a cruel misunderstanding, Ford really has reinvented the Mustang - albeit as a range addition, rather than entire replacement - as this, the all-electric Mach-E. Due for launch next year, the Mustang Mach-E will be offered as either a rear- or four-wheel drive car with a standard (75.7kWh) or long-range (98.8kWh) battery. The batteries themselves are comprised of 288 lithium-ion cells for the standard car and 376 for the extended range model, sited low in the car for the benefit of handling. Charging capacity is up to 150kW, meaning a DC fast charge station can add up to 57 miles of range in 10 minutes (depending on Mustang spec). Ford believes the majority of customers will charge at home; as such it will be offering a Connected Wallbox to Mach-E buyers. With five times the charge power of a conventional socket, it will add around 38 miles of range an hour. Beyond that, the connected nav will update charging locations, and drivers of the Mach-E will have access to the FordPass Charging Network and the Ionity group of fast chargers.

There should be little range anxiety, put simply, given Ford's effort with a charging infrastructure with the Mustang. You make your own jokes now about walking being the preferred option. Back to the car. Ford reckons at its most efficient (2WD and extended range), the Mustang Mach-E will be capable of more than 370 miles on WLTP, which is certainly laudable. To harness that power, the Mustang Mach-E 4 will use an all-wheel drive system that independently applies torque to either axle, though there isn't any mention yet of individual torque vectoring. Interestingly, too, the Mach-E will be available with a set of Brembo's new 'Flexira' calipers, purported to offer the performance of a fixed caliper with the dimensions of a floating one. Magneride dampers are standard on the GT and presumably optional on other models. The Mach-E driver will interact with this technology via three drive modes: Whisper, Engage and Unbridled (yes, really). Each will alter the steering, augmented sound and lighting for "a distinct sensory experience." They'll be doing that from an interior unlike anything we've seen from a Mustang - or indeed from a Ford - at any point before. And breathe. For now at least, that's about it for the Mach-E, though we can probably all agree that that's a fair bit to take in. This is just the start, too, the Mustang one of 14 electrified Ford coming before 2020 is out. So best get used to this. It's Thunderbird MPV after the Mach-E, right?

Thankfully cooler heads prevailed recently when they renewed the licenses for 4 or 5 gas fired plants to allow them to operate for another 5 years. The future for stupid Ca is wind and solar, which makes for a very unreliable electrical grid. The whole EV is the future thing is a crock of garbage. They won't scale very well at all when the numbers go from a few thousand to millions. They should call it the 聯Gelding聰. 40,000-50,000 for a range of 300 miles? An electric Mustang will be at least as fast as a standard Mustang. Have you seen Tesla's performance stats? An electric Mustang will be at least as fast as a standard Mustang. Have you seen Tesla's performance stats? 0-60 or 0-80, after that it's downhill. It comes down to infrastructure. Until it is there EVs are simply experiments to see what the buying public wants.

The Ford vehicle will have to stand on its own as the Tesla will soon have to do. That will be an interesting thing to watch. Last edited by RIDE2GETHER; 11-14-2019 at 05:40 PM. I saw for years and cannot say until official reveal. Watched it go from "art to part" - sketch to showroom floor right in studio. 0-60 or 0-80, after that it's downhill. Tesla Model 3. 0-60 3.2 seconds, top speed 162 mph. What is downhill about that? PLUS, you can wait in line to get a parking space to plug it in - what's not to love? Should make my '07 GT Premium convert (17,400mi.) only go UP in value. Mustang Mach E - I guess Ford believes if they gave it another "E" SUV name (Escape, Edge, Explorer, Expedition) like Eboring, no one would buy it. It appears the similarity with the Mustang is in the mirrors, which are very current Mustang like, and the fact that it has a front windshield and four wheels. 1.00 is not happening nor would it stop the Electric Vehicle train. The Electric Mustang moniker is brilliant. The reason Musk has 80% of the EV market is was the first out of the gate. Obviously his market share will decrease as the majors join the market, but there is plenty of room for unit growth. So does this mean Ford is no longer going to build the Mustang many of us have loved for the last six decades? Looks like our 2010 will remain in the stable even longer! The 1970 Mustang Mach 1

The 1970 Mustang Mach 1

The 1970 Mustang Mach 1 like its 1969 cousin, had its roots founded in a 1968 Ford concept car of the same name. It's distinctive trim and hood scoop, along with a different grille and running lights made the pony car and instant hit. Although the production car never ran as fast as its name would suggest (Mach l being approximately 761.2 mph) it nonetheless beat a number of land speed records. Its looks also led many to believe that it was not only better looking in many ways than the 1970 Boss 302 or the Boss 429, it might be even more powerful. While the power claim may not be accurate, there was a great deal of love for the 1970 Mustang Mach 1 and a huge opportunity to create some incredible horsepower even with it's standard 351 cubic inch V8 engine. Visually, it's hard to find an angle on these cars that don't in an instant, tell you that you are looking at a Mach 1 and not another fastback Mustang.

At the rear, the standard light panel is replaced with a black stripe sweeping across the top half of the tail, as well as the Mach l logo separating the two halves of the graphic. And there is no missing the cast graphic and ribbed casting of the pony car's exclusive rocker trim, which screams "look at me". While the 1968 Ford Mach 1 concept car looked more like a strangely modified 1967 hatchback with it's odd shaped rectangular headlights and 4 exhaust pipes exiting the middle of the rear, the production car fared better. It does make you wonder though, whether some of the ideas that showed up in the Mustang concept were instead transferred into the Mercury Cougar styling. Like its 1970 Ford Mustang brothers, the 1970 Mustang Mach 1 featured revised front sheet metal, including the new distinctive outer front "gills" and going back to a 2 headlight configuration. Also changed from its profile, were the upper side scoops seen on the 1969 model.

The 1970 version also incorporated a functional hood scoop, designed to force cool air into the engine at speed, producing additional horsepower from the denser oxygen mixture. This feature is also known as "ram air" and is also the basis of the current cold air induction kits. Like they say, everything old is new again! It's distinctive matte black accents gave it a unique two-tone appearance and a much more aggressive look than the standard sports roof Mustang. A new black honey comb trim panel was inserted between the restyled triple recessed tail lights and new for '70 Mach l badges were added. The 1970 Mach interior featured a more luxurious looking woodgrain applique on the dash and for 1970, featured Mach l specific, high back bucket seats and special carpet treatment. Like it's other 1970 Ford Mustang siblings, the driver's side remote mirror housing changed on the door panels.

If you ordered the optional console with your interior, you would notice that there were no slots for placing the buckles of your seat belts when not in use as the 1970 Mustangs now featured retractable seat belts. For all its marketing hype, the standard engine and transmission combination of a 351 cubic inch Windsor V8 and 2 barrel carburetor was fairly mundane, producing only 40 horsepower more than the standard 302 V8's 210 horsepower. The optional choices were much more interesting, including the other real performance engine and transmission combos, such as the 351 4 barrel, the 428 Cobra Jet, producing a reportedly understated 375 horsepower. Power Train: The high performance gear sets included the 3.91:1 traction lock and the wicked 4.30:1 Detroit Locker along with upgraded suspension pieces designed to handle the additional power and weight of these large engines. While restoring a surviving pony car is both challenging and rewarding, restoring a Mach takes a little more work.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday said that President Trump was welcome to testify in the House impeachment inquiry. If Trump has information to clear himself "then we look forward to seeing it," she said on CBS' Face the Nation. Hong Kong police and protesters continued a violent standoff for a second day at a university campus occupied by anti-government activists. The protesters barricaded themselves inside Polytechnic University, and used gasoline bombs and bows and arrows to fight off the police. One arrow reportedly hit a media liaison officer in the calf. Riot police rushed into the area after giving protesters an ultimatum to get out. Some of the protesters retreated inside the university as the officers tried to storm in, while other demonstrators set fires on bridges leading to the campus. Also on Monday, a Hong Kong court ruled that a ban on face masks that authorities imposed last month, invoking a colonial-era emergency law, was unconstitutional, although the ban was not immediately lifted. Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Sunday apologized for supporting the aggressive "stop-and-frisk" policing strategy for a decade.

The practice resulted in disproportionate police stops of black and Latino people in the city. Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Sunday that people participating in protests over a 50-percent hike in gas prices are "thugs" stirred up by counterrevolutionaries and foreign enemies of the Islamic republic. Protesters have responded to the price increase by abandoning cars on highways and participating in mass street protests. Authorities say at least three people have died in the unrest, including a police officer killed in an attack on a police station in the western city of Kermanshah on Saturday, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. Khamenei specifically blamed the unrest on people linked to the family of Iran's late shah, who was overthrown 40 years ago, and the exile group Mujahedeen-e-Khalq, which advocates toppling Iran's government. Two chemistry professors at Henderson State University in Arkansas have been arrested on allegations that they made methamphetamine at the school.

The chemistry professors, Terry David Bateman and Bradley Allen Rowland, were arrested on Friday, Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson said in a statement. Bateman, 45, and Rowland, 40, were placed on administrative leave on Oct. 11. Three days earlier, university authorities received a report of an undetermined chemical odor at a science facility. Initial tests found elevated levels of benzyl chloride, a chemical that can be used to make meth, in a lab. The building was closed for two weeks to make it safe to use again. Venice, Italy, was flooded Sunday by a record third exceptional tide in a week. The latest extraordinarily high tide reached 1.5 meters. On Tuesday, the flood tide peaked at 1.87 meters, the highest flood level in 53 years. This week's three 1.5-meter tides were unprecedented. Since records began in 1872, that mark had never been hit even twice in a single year. Store owners around hard-hit St. Mark's Square closed their doors.

The famous St. Mark's Basilica was also closed, and canal-side windows were blocked off with sandbags to prevent the church's crypt from flooding again. The city's mayor estimated the flood damage at hundreds of millions of dollars, and Italian authorities declared a state of emergency. President Trump has changed his mind about banning e-cigarettes with youth-friendly flavors like mint, candy, and fruit, The Washington Post and The New York Times report. Ford on Sunday unveiled its all-electric 2021 Mustang Mach-E, an SUV based on the automaker's new EV architecture. The Mach-E marks an attempt to expand the appeal of the iconic Mustang and lure in a new generation of buyers. The Mach-E is the first Mustang that isn't a two-door sports car. 11 billion effort to introduce 40 new electric and hybrid models by 2022. Ford said the Mach-E would get 210 miles to 300-plus miles on a charge, depending on the battery option. The Mach-E's performance and price will rival Tesla's Model Y SUV. Ford CEO Jim Hackett said the Mach-E also will have the company's new hands-free driver assist system, similar to Tesla's Autopilot and Cadillac's Super Cruise systems. Gunmen fired into a crowd of people at a backyard party in southeast Fresno in central California on Sunday, killing four people and wounding six more. Fresno Police Lt. Bill Dooley said. About 35 people were at the party. All of the victims were Asian men between the ages of 25 and 35. "Thank God that no kids were hurt," Dooley said. Police said investigators could not immediately determine whether the victims knew the attacker or attackers. Police reported no immediate arrests in the case.

Release Date, Pricing And More

Release Date, Pricing And More

What changes will make the 2021 Ford Mustang different? Speculation about that revamp - by far the biggest alteration since the model-year 2015 introduction of this Mustang generation - includes not only updated styling but possible addition of a gas/electric hybrid model and optional all-wheel drive. In any event, Mustang is slated to become Ford鈥檚 only passenger car as the automaker phases out its Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus cars in favor more profitable pickup trucks, crossovers, and SUVs. Despite sales declines in its competitive set, Mustang remains far and away the most popular of today鈥檚 鈥減ony cars,鈥?handily outselling the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger. Evidently, shoppers agree with our view that the Ford offers the best balance of performance, styling, and daily-driver livability. Should I wait for the 2021 model or buy the 2020? If you like today鈥檚 Mustang, there鈥檇 be little reason to wait for the 2021. It鈥檚 unlikely to get any important changes, but it will cost more. And like the 鈥?0, it鈥檒l be a very capable sporty car, with models that range from relatively tame to the limited-edition 760-horsepower Shelby GT500, the most powerful and expensive Mustang ever.

The 2021 Mustang roster will reprise two-door Fastback coupe and power-soft-top convertible body styles. Each would come in turbocharged-four-cylinder EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium trim levels, as well as in V-8 GT Premium guise. A just-plain GT Fastback would be available, too. Also returning should be the specialty V-8 Bullitt, Shelby GT350, and racetrack-ready GT350R Fastbacks. All 鈥?1 Mustangs will again be rear-wheel drive and available with manual or automatic transmission - save the manual-only Bullitt and GT350/GT350R models. Ford plans to build just 5,000 Shelby GT500s. Will the styling be different? The 鈥?1 will again feature plenty of nods to the original 1960s Mustang鈥檚 long-hood-short-deck look. In particular, the Bullitt will continue as an homage to the fastback driven by Steve McQueen in the legendary 1968 film. Expect it to return with blackout wheels, minimal exterior badging, and available 鈥淗ighland Green鈥?paint. Like the exterior, the 2021 Mustang鈥檚 cabin will continue to blend classic and modern elements.

Standard instrumentation will again consist of two large pods that house the speedometer and tachometer, a throwback design modernized with a small LCD display in between. Markings are on the small side but the layout is serviceable. Our EcoBoost Premium and Bullitt test cars included the available digital dashboard. This feature replaces the analog gauges with a virtual cluster displayed on a single LCD screen. It strikes us as technology for technology鈥檚 sake rather than adding any real value for the driver. More useful are the straightforward climate and infotainment-system controls. The latter employs Ford鈥檚 intuitive Sync 3 interface with support for Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. Cabin materials consist of a roughly even mix of padded surfaces and hard-plastic panels. The low ride height makes ingress and egress difficult but once aboard, Mustang impresses for front-se roominess. Legroom is excellent and only the extremely tall will have issues with headroom. The back seats are an afterthought.

They鈥檒l accommodate a child booster seat, but any human more than about 45 inches tall will have very little space for noggin or knees, especially if the front seats are set more than halfway back. Both body styles have traditional trunks, 13.5 cubic feet on the Fastback and 11.4 for the convertible cubic feet. Each has a fairly wide opening, but neither trunk is tall, so bulkier items fit poorly, if at all. Probably not until the next refresh. The 2021 Mustang EcoBoost models will retain a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder of 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Expect transmission choices to remain a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic. Ford will likely also bring back the High Performance Package that it introduced for 2020 EcoBoost models. 4,995 option should again include the high-output 2.3-liter turbo four from the discontinued Focus RS, bringing output to 330 horsepower at the same 350 pound-feet of torque.

The package will again add larger brakes from the Mustang GT, a front lip spoiler, strut tower brace, performance suspension, uprated axle ratio with limited-slip differential, and 19-inch summer-only tires. Expect the 2021 Mustang GT and GT Premium to retain a 5.0-liter V-8 with 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. They, too, will again offer a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. Available with the six-speed manual only, Bullitt grades would again pack an upgraded version of the 5.0-liter V-8 with 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Also limited to the six-speed, the 2021 Shelby GT350 and GT350R will return with a specially built 5.2-liter V-8 of 526 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The GT500 adds a supercharger and other go-fast bits to the GT350鈥檚 engine for 760 horsepower and 624 pound-feet of torque. Purists might cringe, but the GT500鈥檚 sole transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Ford dropped an available V-6 engine with 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque for model-year 2018, leaving today鈥檚 turbo four as Mustang鈥檚 base powerplant.

Mustang Prototype - Mustang "Shorty"

Mustang Prototype - Mustang "Shorty"

The Ford Mustang has never strayed from its original formula as a sporty four-seat coupe or convertible, despite evolving through myriad designs over its 52-plus year lifespan so far. Occasional concepts for two-seaters, however, have provided a curious sidebar to the pony car鈥檚 history, starting 18 months before the production Mustang arrived. The little Mustang had no chance of production, but the public didn鈥檛 know that. Nor did the public know that Ford, the month before, had green-lighted development of a low-priced sporty four-seater based on the chassis of the Falcon econocar. Its final design had been locked down that summer, and Cougar and Torino were among names considered. By that November, it was called Mustang. Even as customers were lining up to buy the new Mustang in the spring of 1964, Ford鈥檚 design department was looking at future possibilities. A photo dated April 23, just six days after the Mustang was introduced at the World鈥檚 Fair in New York, shows a clay model for a Mustang-themed two-seater.

That model went no further, but the two-seat idea resurfaced that autumn as an oddly proportioned coupe in the Ford Custom Car Caravan, which toured American auto shows to generate publicity. A 鈥淢ustang III鈥?license plate linked the car to the earlier midengine roadster, which Ford had renamed Mustang I after introducing a lightly disguised preproduction model as the 1963 Mustang II concept car. Ford had no intentions of building such a car, though, as a company representative told a potential customer, Bill Snyder, when he tried ordering one. Snyder and the Mustang III, however, would eventually reconnect. Dearborn Steel Tubing, a fabricator of prototypes and special vehicles for Ford, built the Mustang III. As a foundation, Ford provided a Mustang convertible, the ninth of 15 preproduction prototypes made, but now with 16 inches snipped from its wheelbase, giving it the 鈥渟horty Mustang鈥?nickname. The car鈥檚 V-8 was a prototype 302-cid version of Ford鈥檚 young small-block V-8.

A designer at the prototype company, Vince Gardner, created new fiberglass bodywork from the A-pillars rearward, including a short fastback roof that mimicked the production model. Any resemblance to the period鈥檚 altered-wheelbase drag-race machines cars was most likely unintended. Gardner, who also helped build the car, became quite attached to his creation. When the Mustang III returned to its builder in the spring of 1965 with instructions that it be destroyed, he stole the car, stashing it in a warehouse and building a wall to hide it. Months later, when Gardner failed to pay rent, the landlord discovered the car and notified authorities. Aetna Insurance paid the theft claim and sold the Mustang III to one of its executives, who four years later advertised it for sale in Hemmings Motor News. The buyer was Snyder, who鈥檇 tried to buy it years before. 鈥淩ecords show it was 鈥榗ommissioned by Ford,鈥欌€?said Kroplick, president of the Long Island Motor Parkway Preservation Society. 鈥淏ut I wouldn鈥檛 say it was a Ford prototype. Since the Mustang III was built from a pre-production prototype, many parts are stamped 鈥淴E鈥?for Experimental Engineering or 鈥淴F鈥?for Experimental Ford.

Built in December of 1969, this 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 was originally delivered in the Omaha ordering district. Finished in D code Competition Yellow with Black Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl bucket seats, the car came equipped with the 351 4bbl Cleveland engine, FMX transmission, power steering, Mach 1 option package, rear spoiler, front spoiler, and black stripes. The car received a complete rotisserie restoration where the car was stripped down to bare metal and built nut and bolt from the ground up. After being taken down to the shell, the Ford received all new bodywork and a beautiful base coat/clear coat paint job in the correct factory color. All of the stainless trim is new as is the chrome. The motor is the powerful 351 Cleveland engine which has the factory compression of 10:1. This particular motor was rebuilt by a Ford engine specialist from top to bottom using factory correct components. It purrs like a kitten and makes awesome power when you get on the gas - as it should! The engine runs well on 91/93 octane gas. The engine compartment has been correctly restored using the correct lines, hoses, paint finishes decals.

The Care And Feeding Of Ponies

The Care And Feeding Of Ponies

There always seems to be a little confusion concerning what these numbers mean, and, what the difference is between them. They are, after all, very similar. We'll start with the casting numbers. This is the number which is actually on the part itself. Here's how that works. The first digit will be a letter which signifies which decade the part is from. The second digit will be a number, which indicates which year of the decade the part is from. So, if the first two digits are C1, this is 1961, D4 is 1974, B9 is 1959, and so on. The third digit will be a letter, unless it's a part originally intended for something that didn't go into production until after 1970. Then, it could also be a single-digit number, but, not for a Mustang. This tells you which car line the part was originally designed for. This is just what it was originally intended for. They did not use car-line specific part numbers for the same part that was used in several different vehicles. A 66 model 289 hipo engine block will have the casting number of C5AE-6015-E on the side of it.

This does not mean that the motor came out of a 65 Galaxie and was put in the Mustang by someone. The fourth digit is telling you what sort of part it is in a very general way. The first four digits will be followed by a hyphen, and then there will be a string of numbers, some having a letter thrown in just for fun, and then another hyphen. The stuff between the hyphens is what's called a group number. This tells you what the part is. 6015 between the hyphens means that this is an engine block. After The 4-digit prefix, the group number, and, the second hyphen, there will be a letter. This letter indicates the design change level. That means that they started with a part, say, C5ZE-9600-A, which would be a breather assembly. They then change the design to include a fitting sticking out of the side of it. It becomes C5ZE-9600-B, they change the design again to put a longer, stiffer spring on the snorkel flap. It is now C5ZE-9600-C, and so on. This is purely for the sake of example, and are not actual design changes that are represented by these specific numbers. Let's say, for example, that I am needing a rebuild kit for my 2bbl carburetor, but, I am not sure if it's the original carburetor for my car, and, the I.D.

With Ford's withdrawal from Trans-Am officially following 1970, the high end Boss 302 and 429 disappeared and were replaced by the large street-oriented Boss 351. The 1971 Mustang was larger in almost every dimension, earing the nickname the "Clydesdale". In 1972 the 429s were dropped from the lineup, and horsepower dropped across the board. This year also produced the fewest Mach 1 sales of the 1971-73 generation. There are no major differences in the 1971 and 72 Mustangs externally, other than different script on the trunk panel. In 1973, the Front end was changed to fit new bumper standards, and a new Mach 1 grille was made. The Mach 1 grille in prior years had 2 "sportlamps" horizontally across the grill on the left and right side, while the functional parking lamps rode low underneath the front bumper at the outer ends of the valance panel. In 1973, all Mustang models had the sportlamps changed to a vertical orientation at each end of the grill, and these lamps served double duty as the parking lamps also.

This was necessary since the new-for-73 front bumper was larger and effectively blocked the view underneath the bumper, the previous location of the parking lamps. The rear bumper was also mounted on new bump-absorbing extensions which caused the bumper to protrude from the body about an inch farther than before. The Mach 1 graphics were also updated to a simpler, yet bolder design, which was necessitated by the change in the front bumper. Engine options remained the same as in 1972. One of the most recognizable as well as popular features of the '71-'73 block-off plates in the scoops, so it was a visual, non-functional item. However, they could be made fully functional on models ordered with the 'ram-air' option. This included vacuum controlled 'flappers' at each scoop, and a huge fiberglas underhood 'plenum' that directed cool, outside air into the carburator for increased performance. The ram-air option included a two-tone hood paint treatment in either 'matte black' or 'argent' (matte silver), coordinated to the color of the Mach 1 decals and striping. In addition, all ram-air equipped Mustangs of this generation came equipped with big twist-style chrome-plated hood lock pins.

12 Reasons Why The Ford Mustang Mach E Will Be A Huge Hit

12 Reasons Why The Ford Mustang Mach E Will Be A Huge Hit

200 was a lost sale of an iPhone. No, Android hasn鈥檛 killed the iPhone, it has greatly expanded the market for smartphones to people who either can鈥檛 afford or don鈥檛 want an iPhone. As Steve Hanley covered about 6 months ago, 1 in 5 Americans plan to buy an electric car as their next car! So, why do EVs have a 1% market share instead of 20%? I鈥檒l start off with my history with the Ford Mustang. My father bought a 1964 Ford Mustang the same year I was born. Growing up, I remember him driving it on snowy roads and showing me the fun of oversteer. Once when I was 5 we got stuck in a ditch (in rural Iowa) because the car spun out. We had to find a farmer with a tractor to pull us out. I also remember the danger of no safety belts. My father was having something repaired and the car had no passenger seat. I was sitting in the back with no belt (I鈥檓 pretty sure cars didn鈥檛 have rear belts, but if they did, nobody used them in those days).

My father stopped suddenly and I flew into the dash. I caught myself with my nose and bled all over for a few minutes. 1. The name. Ford gave this car 3 of the most valuable trademarks it owns. The Mustang name has huge emotional value to 55 years of fans. I鈥檓 less familiar with the Mach name, but it appears it was a highly respected performance package for the Ford Mustang (but not as expensive as the Shelby Mustangs). The Model E trademark was filed by Ford in 2013 and prevented Tesla from using it to spell S-E-X with its first 3 vehicles. The Mustang name has by far the most value and the fact that Ford is willing to use this valuable asset on an electric car speaks volumes. If this car wasn鈥檛 awesome, it would hugely dilute Ford鈥檚 Mustang brand, so I expect Ford to do everything in its power to ensure this car is successful.

2. It will be advertised by both Ford and its dealers. Now, we don鈥檛 know how much, but this will help the car reach buyers who watch TV and get their cues from it. 3. It will be sold by dealers close to you. According to Statista, Ford has around 3,000 dealers around the United States, vs. Tesla having only about 100. In rural areas like I grew up in, this makes a huge difference. There are 3 Ford dealerships within 20 miles of my small hometown (population of 1,598). The nearest Tesla showroom and service center is 183 miles away in Minneapolis. This will make a big difference in many rural areas. It adds a lot of risk to the buying experience if you are 3 hours from the nearest service center. On the other hand, Ford has its work cut out for itself in training this dealer network. 4. The car isn鈥檛 ugly.

It might be a little early to say that, but I can tell from the teaser images that it鈥檚 going to be reasonably good looking. Many automakers have greatly hurt their EVs鈥?sales potential because they were designed to look different to attract the environmentally aware consumer looking to show everyone how 鈥済reen鈥?they are. This strategy worked very well for Toyota and its Prius 10 to 20 years ago, but is now obsolete. Now you just want to design your car to look good to 鈥渞egular鈥?people. 5. It鈥檚 not slow. Somewhere in the 2000s, manufacturers got the idea that EVs should be slow and boring (maybe from the Prius). Most of these cars focused on fuel economy instead of providing the one-two punch of fast acceleration and efficiency. I don鈥檛 have access to exact figures, but zero to 60 times should be similar to the Tesla Model 3. Somewhere around 5 seconds for the cheaper models and somewhere around 3 seconds for the higher priced cars.

The Ford 聯Mustang Mach-III聰 is a 2-place 聯Concept聰 convertible. All styling elements work in concert to create a gorgeous car. The Mach-III is front engine, rear wheel drive, 3000 lb. 450 horsepower 4.6 liter OHC V8; coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission which allows 0-60 MPH times of around 4.0 seconds and a top speed of over 175 MPH. When I first saw the Maisto rendition of the Mustang Mach-III, I was quite taken with the pleasing lines of the entire vehicle. There are several scoops and sculptured details. A center console runs from the dash, between the seats and on to the rear deck. Under the hood is a well-detailed V8 engine with supercharger and wiring. Chromed wheels with 5-bifurcated spokes are shod with low-profile Goodyear Eagle GS-C tires. Three taillights are neatly inlayed in each side of the tastefully rounded rear end. Smoothly applied red paint and black interior create a great looking color contrast. Sculptured black bumpers protect front and rear ends. The low windshield frame has a dip in the center, with a mirror built into the back of the frame. As on all Maisto 1/18th scale models, the steering wheel functions and the suspension has working springs. This is one model I will purchase in several colors. Take a close look at this Maisto Mustang, for many it will be just too good-looking to pass up.

The Ford Mustang SUV Is Starting A Blitz Of New Electric Vehicles

The Ford Mustang SUV Is Starting A Blitz Of New Electric Vehicles

鈥?Ford is unveiling its first all-electric SUV, marking the start of an avalanche of battery-powered vehicles coming from mainstream and luxury automakers during the next two years that industry analysts say will boost electric vehicle sales. The "Mustang Mach E," which will go 230 miles to more than 300 miles per charge depending on how it's equipped, will be unveiled Sunday night ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show press days. There are 18 now for sale in the U.S., and IHS Markit expects that to grow to 80 in 2022, including pickup trucks and SUVs that are in the heart of the American market. Yet last year, pure electric vehicles made up only 1.5% of new vehicle sales worldwide, and the consulting firm LMC Automotive predicts that will rise to 2.2% this year. In the U.S., electric vehicles were only 1.2% of sales in 2018, and it's expected to be about the same this year.

But automakers see opportunity for growth, and with electric vehicles getting 250 miles or more on a single charge, worries about running out of juice on a daily commute are gone. Because of the added models and increased range, LMC predicts that they will make up 17% of global sales and 7% of U.S. First-generation electric vehicles, which mainly were retrofitted versions of existing models designed to meet government fuel economy standards, didn't sell well largely because they couldn't travel more than 100 miles between charges. But now, many can go beyond the distance people drive in one day with plenty of cushion. Jake Fisher, director of auto testing for Consumer Reports. Stephanie Brinley, principal auto analyst for IHS Markit, said electric vehicle choices may expand before consumer demand does, but eventually people will buy them. While many electrics coming in the next few years are from luxury brands, mainstream brands like Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota also have them on the production schedule. Ford and General Motors have announced plans for all-electric pickups that will compete against gas and diesel trucks that are the top sellers in the U.S.

For Ford, executives realized in 2017 that they had to offer something more exciting for the first of a new generation of electric vehicles. The company last year it promised six battery electric vehicles by 2022. It also has partnerships with VW and startup Rivian to build more. To sell them, Ford decided to go to the company's strengths: Pickup trucks, commercial vans and the high-performance Mustang. Jason Castriota, the company's brand director for electric vehicles. The five-passenger Mach E sort of resembles a Mustang, and Ford says it comes close to matching the car's performance. Engineers say the base model will have a range of about 230 miles (370 kilometers) per charge, with a long-range option of more than 300 miles (483 kilometers). The base version is expected to go from zero to 60 mph (96.6 kph) in a little over six seconds, Ford said, while the performance GT version will do it in about 3.5 seconds. The base version is rear-wheel-drive, with all-wheel-drive options. It has the Mustang pony badge on the front and rear, a long hood and a fastback look at the rear. Yet designers preserved rear-seat headroom with a blacked-out glass roof. The Mustang team set up the Mach E's chassis tuning, which determines its handling. Designers also copied the Mustang's triple tail lights. U.S. orders are being taken now, and the SUV will reach showrooms next fall. 7,500 federal tax credit, which is being phased out at Tesla and General Motors.

For 2004 the Mustang celebrated 40 years of production and placed a 40th anniversary badge on each '04 Mustang. An Anniversary package could be bought, and it included beige stripes, crimson paint, beige wheels and monogrammed floor mats. Ford introduced a completely redesigned Mustang at the 2004 North American International Auto Show, dubbed 'S-197'. Based on an all-new D2C platform, the 'S-197' was developed under the direction of Chief Engineer Hau Thai-Tang and exterior styling designer Sid Ramnarace. 2005 heralded the ninth generation of the Ford Mustang, and the all-new Mustang debuted first as a concept. Finally the Fox platform was put to bed and replaced with the DEW98 platform that was already being used for the Lincoln LS and the Thunderbird. The interior of the '05 Mustang was also very similar to the old model, with a dual-hooded dash with optional aluminum accent panels it was much like the '67-'68 Mustang. The big speedo and tach, round steering wheel hub and circular air vents were also reminiscent to old models. The backlighting was changeable and at the simple press of a button could be changed from white, blue, green to orange hues.

Following Ford Mustang Mach-E Debut, Tesla's Elon Musk Gives Kudos

Following Ford Mustang Mach-E Debut, Tesla's Elon Musk Gives Kudos

Up until last night's 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E debut, it has been a waiting game. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has continued to assert that the Silicon Valley automaker's mission involves accelerating sustainable transportation, not only by Tesla bringing EVs to market, but also encouraging others to do so. By encouraging others, this doesn't have to be in a direct way, but rather, through Tesla's success, others "should" take notice and follow. Musk has continued to say he looks forward to the competition and can only hope that other automakers will follow suit. Thus far, no other automaker has truly captured what Tesla has set out to do. This is partly because legacy OEMs are still selling gas-powered cars and will be for years to come. As expected, when these automakers have brought EVs to market, they have been subpar to Tesla in a number of ways. Moreover, none have sold well. Ford seems to have plans to be the first exception in this scenario. Not only is the Big Three automaker bringing a compelling EV to market, but it's also following in the footsteps of Tesla nearly to a "T." No pun intended, but hopefully, you get the idea. However, sadly, Ford will produce its EV outside of the States, in Mexico. The Ford Mustang Mach-E couldn't be closer to a carbon copy of the Tesla Model Y if we've ever seen one, and despite people complaining about that, we're happy to see that Ford has taken notice. It's important to note that despite Neff's lifelong interest in ICE cars, he has recently purchased a Tesla Model 3, along with a second EV.

I see a lot of work ahead. Up side was I didn't have to sacrifice another '69 Mach 1 kit for just the scoop and hood. The scoop was great. The Hood and air Cleaner was marginal at best. I tossed the air cleaner part and am working on filling sand cleaning up the hood. I may salvage it yet. Over the 3 year down time I found a company called Hobbytime that makes some really nice Photo-etch. They just so happen to make one for the Revell (Monogram) '70 Mustang. It's too late in incorporate some of this set into the build, but much of it I will use. Where I am at now, Interior painted. Next time, I will decant this so I can airbrush it. I can't remember a spray can that was so bad. I was able to spray in right onto the plastic. I tested it on the plastic spoon to make sure. I don't always believe when the can says the paint is plastic compatible.

40,000 mark, with a confirmed range of 300 miles in the U.S. And all that brings us to the real question: what is a heavily-camouflaged, pre-production Ford doing at Milford? After all, like General Motors, Ford has several of its own testing facilities around the world, one of which is the Ford Proving Grounds located in nearby Romeo, Michigan. One could suggest that GM is benchmarking a competitor鈥檚 product, as we have seen the automaker do various times prior at Milford. However, GM benchmarks production models, rather than prototypes, and it鈥檚 far too early in the development of the Ford Mach-E for GM to get its hands on one. Another remote possibility is that GM and Ford are collaborating on electric vehicles. The two automakers haven鈥檛 officially announced an EV partnership, but the duo did recently co-develop two transmissions - the front-drive 9-speed (for GM applications) and 8-speed (for Ford applications), as well as the rear-drive 10-speed transmission. As more automakers pair up to co-develop vehicles, especially EVs that continue being an unprofitable affair for all automakers involved, could it be possible that GM and Ford have quietly joined efforts on the electric front? We reached out to Ford for comment, and got a very clear 鈥渘o鈥?from Ford Global EV Communications Manager, Emma Bergg. For its part, Ford is behind the curve when it comes to electric vehicles, as the Dearborn-based automaker hasn鈥檛 offered an all-electric vehicle since the Focus EV - a battery-electric variant of the Focus hatchback. 30,000, the Focus EV had a 115-mile range. 36,000. Last year for the Shelby Mustang was 1969. Now based on the new Mustang SportsRoof and convertible body styles, new design of the Shelby Mustang shared little resemblance to the production Mustang. Rear firsts can be found in convertible assembled below in order to avoid any interference with the convertible top mechanism. 65 Thunderbird taillights were used, and a single exhaust manifold aluminum left in the middle below the bumper.

Ford鈥檚 New Mustang Mach-E Is An Electric SUV 鈥?And You Can Reserve One Sunday

Ford Motor Co., which pioneered the racy pony-car body style 55 years ago, will use the Mustang name and insignia on an electric crossover utility vehicle coming next year. 鈥淭he launch marks the first real milestone in Ford鈥檚 increased emphasis in electrification, and more importantly marks an increased effort by the legacy U.S. 鈥?Dan Levy, a Credit Suisse analyst, wrote in a report Thursday. 11 billion to roll out 40 electric and hybrid vehicles by 2022. It鈥檚 employing a strategy of electrifying its icons, first with the Mustang electric crossover and then with hybrid and battery-electric versions of its top-selling F-150 pickup truck. The automaker aims to show its EVs can be fast and tough and aren鈥檛 just so-called compliance cars intended to meet more-stringent environmental regulations. Ford is beginning its pivot toward electrification by closing a 46-year-old engine factory in suburban Detroit that produces big V8 engines for the Mustang Shelby GT350. The United Auto Workers, now voting on a new contract with the automaker, is concerned the switch from gasoline to battery power endangers employment of 35,000 union members.

So you think they pick a random date based on the car show calendar, rather than pick a date when they believe the car will be close to production ready? Seems silly to introduce a car (that's not a concept) long before it's ready. Who says it's still long before it's ready? Those are your words, not mine. Ford has been working on this vehicle for at least three years (possibly more), given all the planning, preparation of the plant, plant-negotiations with the UAW, and vehicle-testing that were involved. So, no, what I said was not silly at all. And it's apparently ready enough for them to have a special Baja version of it. Baja race, or many thousands of public sales that are waiting? Who says it's still long before it's ready? Those are your words, not mine. Baja race, or many thousands of public sales that are waiting? You think the Baja version is production ready? It's a mock-up for marketing purposes. Who cares how long Ford has been working on it? That is not a measure of when the car is ready to be introduced. Car companies carefully choose when they are ready to introduce their vehicles. I think it's fair to assume that they choose the car show based on 2 main factors: (1) the importance of the show, and (2) if the car is nearly ready. It's pretty simple; if they think the car won't be ready until mid/late 2020, it just may not be ready for the '19 LA Show, even if some customers are antsy to see the actual car revealed. Rushing the car out for introduction is a much worse mistake than delaying to get it right. Who says it's still long before it's ready?

I see your point. There is definitely something holding back the Bronco. If it is supposedly built off the Ranger platform, then it should easier to put together. Taking this long seems to be at odds as the SUV market is hit right now. How long they have been working on it, I dont know but if it was three years, then it should probably be released. Maybe this new Bronco was slated for Mexican production and Ford has had to rethink that.

2 (fastback), or coupe. Many different engines were available, from the 170 CID six-cylinder to some of Ford's biggest and most powerful V-8 engines in later years. This meant car buyers could have a Mustang that saved gas or a more powerful and fast car. More than one million Mustangs were sold in only two years. The Mustang is still being sold today and is still very popular. The so-called "1964 1/2" Mustang was designed by Joe Oros and Dave Ash of Ford's Mercury division, was based on another Ford car, the Falcon and was proposed by Ford's president, Lee Iacocca. The Falcon was not expensive to build and that helped Iacocca get the Mustang the approval it needed to be built. The people who ran the Ford company did not want to take a chance on a car like that because they lost a lot of money on another car, the Edsel, just a few years back.

It set sales records and became one of the best selling cars of all time. It would remain mostly the same until 1966. So popular was the Mustang that three Ford assembly plants worked to build it. Not only was the Mustang built in Dearborn, but in Metuchen, New Jersey and San Jose, California as well. The very first Mustang built to be sold to the public was a white convertible with a black interior and a V-8 engine. It was purchased by a pilot from Newfoundland. Ford offered the one millionth Mustang to the owner in exchange for the first one. That first Mustang, serial number 5F08F100001, is still on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Its second body style came out in 1967, its third in 1969 and its fourth in 1971. Bigger, more powerful engines were offered starting in 1967, making some Mustangs into musclecars. Some of those special Mustangs had special names such as Mustang GT, Mach 1, Boss 302, Boss 351, Boss 429 and 429 SCJ, or "Super Cobra Jet." By 1971, the Mustang had become a much larger car.

The car grew in size so that Ford could put its biggest engines in it, but insurance companies were charging very high prices to insure powerful cars and sales began to drop. Many people missed the original, smaller Mustang. A new Mustang came out in 1974 called Mustang II and was based on the Ford Pinto, although far less than the original car had been based on the Falcon. This new car was almost the same size as the original car, but emissions controls and the Arab oil embargo meant that the Mustang II was not a very powerful car. 1974 was not only the first time Ford had built a car which looked like an older model, it was also the first American car to be built on the metric system. The Mustang II helped keep the ponycar alive between 1974 and 1978. General Motors almost stopped building their popular Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird; Chrysler Corporation stopped building the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Barracuda during that time.

General Motors stopped building the Camaro in 2002, but they brought back a new version in 2009. Chrysler brought back a new Challenger in 2008 as well; they, like today's Mustang, are made to look like older models. The new Mustang that came out in 1979 may have been the most important Mustang ever. One reason was the return of a powerful V-8 in 1982 which was developed in later years into an even more powerful engine. The basic design carried all the way through the 2004 model year, but with hundreds of thousands of improvements over the years. Very few parts except for some minor chassis parts stayed unchanged. All models were available with manual and automatic transmissions. The 2010 Mustang in turn looks much like the 2005-09 model, but all the body parts except for the roof are different. The rear turn signals of the 2005-2010 cars blink in a one-two-three sequence like the 1967-68 Mercury Cougar and 1964-66 Ford Thunderbird. Power for the V8 rose to 315 hp. In 2011, the Mustang received new engines, a 3.7-liter V6 base engine with 305 hp and a new 5.0-liter engine with 412 hp. For 2015, a completely new Ford Mustang was introduced. This included a 5.0 V8 engine which produced 435hp, and was really a stylish and morden look. 鈫?"2008 Ford Mustang Specs". 鈫?"2012 Ford Mustang Specs".

As for the battery, the Mustang Mach-E has a range that varies per trim level. Using a two lithium-ion battery pack, buyers of the electric crossover have two options: standard range and extended range. The former uses a 75.7-kWh pack, while the latter uses a 98.8-kWh battery pack. The Mach-E can reach up to 300 miles (483 kilometers) in one single charge. The lowest range in the trim is 210 miles (338 kilometers). When it comes to charging, the Mustang Mach-E comes with a mobile home charger that can add up to 4.8 kilometers per hour of charging via a 120V socket. Using a 240V outlet jacks up the rate at 35 kilometers per hour of charging time. Using U.S.-available charging stations, however, the Mustang EV can add up to 76 kilometers within 10 minutes of charging through a 150-kW DC fast charger, max. The Ford Mustang Mach-E will be available for MY 2020 in the U.S. Premium and First Edition. The lower Select variant, as well as the higher California Route 1 and GT Performance models, will become available by 2021. Pricing isn鈥檛 definite yet, but U.S.

The older 911 models are pretty little cars, but this is simply gorgeous. It reminds me of the Singer 911s. I'm on the fence about the color, but the car itself is an undeniable work of sheer beauty. The new Viper shown a few photos back could trace its heritage back to this beauty. It's a 1990s Viper GTS, the coolest Chrysler product of the era. This one is looking sharp with a deep metallic blue paint job adorned with silver stripes. Custom rims also distinguish this car from stock. The Jeep Jeepster was not the most creatively-named vehicle ever built, but it was still pretty cool. Aimed at the Bronco, Blazer, and Scout, the Jeepster was bigger and more refined than the CJ line. The design was heavily based off of the original Willys Jeepster of the 1950s. These are popular collector cars now, and this one is unbelievably well-preserved, right down to the hubcaps. Impressive doesn't even begin to cover it.

Taking the trophy for wildest paint was this Mercury coupe. This custom cruiser had color-shift paint, which changes hue based on sunlight. You can walk around the car and watch the color change hues. In addition to the crazy colors, this Mercury also has lake pipes and other custom touches that set it apart from the crowd. Compared with the other lead sled Mercury from the beginning of this post, it becomes evident just how much these cars can be customized. This 1969 Mustang convertible is a lightly-modified Sunday cruiser. The Torq-Thrusts are standard fare for muscle cars such as this, and the hood decal is from a sportier Mach 1 model. Otherwise, this car is pretty much stock, especially the interior, which looked just as it did in 1969. On such a nice summer day, I envy the person who has a convertible as nice as this. I've seen this custom Charger before, but this is the first time I was able to get a good photo. It's a 1973 Charger, modified to resemble a vintage stock car. The paint job is an homage to the Blue Angels, a fighter jet exhibition team based in Florida. This car is absolutely terrific, and very unique. Lastly we have this 1966 Plymouth Barracuda Formula S. The Formula S was the sporty version of the Barracuda, the equivalent of the Mustang GT. This one is beautiful, with shiny Cragars being the only deviation from the car's stock appearance. It's a pony car, pure and simple.

There is layer upon layer of intricate detail in the movie Cars 2, the sequel to the successful 2006 Pixar release Cars. But go see the movie. The Pixar team once again constructed an entire world where cars, trucks and boats are the characters. It must be exhausting to work at Pixar. All that hard work is worth it, though, as the movie is so visually intriguing that it will have you wishing you could freeze each frame in the theater. Racing themes with which you'll be familiar also abound. The real Jeff Gordon voices a Chevrolet Corvette C6.R named Jeff Gorvette while Lewis Hamilton voices a McLaren supercar named . Lewis Hamilton. Up in the announcers booth are a Chevy Monte Carlo named Darrell Cartrip, a Jaguar E-type with android car stereo named David Hobbscap and a Ford Mustang named Brent Mustangburger. We'll let you figure those out. When Cars 2 does deliver its life lessons, they don't come as the gentle epiphanies of Cars or Toy Story so much as public-service announcements. Then it's time to rush back out in the world and start the chase anew.

There's a metric ton of Tesla's running the commute ring around Boston every day. People get all freaked out about range when for something like 98.5% of the country they could absolutely commute with a Tesla. I've dug up the statistic before, but range issues simply aren't a think anymore for the overwhelming majority of commuters. Oh, and Immokalee to Napes is 50 miles. What is your position then of the F150 going electric? I originally said, we will be forced to buy these pos under the guise of fixing a manufactured problem. I dont have to like it. I originally said, we will be forced to buy these pos under the guise of fixing a manufactured problem. I dont have to like it. Honest question - why do electric cars upset you? What's the average daily commute in this country? I google it but you could do that yourself.

Here's the first answer that popped up, I do not know the accuracy. According to ABC News, the average American drives 16 miles to work each way, with a daily commute totaling nearly an hour round trip. That would be relevant if you only used your vehicle for that purpose. But speaking of you what's your commute and what do you drive? Mine is either zero or 12 miles depending if I work from home like today and I drive either a 2018 Jeep Rubicon gas or a 2017 Ford F250 diesel but neither of them are primarily used for commuting. Both are being replaced soon but neither with an EV. Personally I think with current technology only the plug-in hybrid makes sense for the vast majority of users. There's no reason the technology to make full EV's practical won't evolve but IMO it's not there yet unless you just want a vehicle for use locally and don't mind overpaying. Setting up all-electric drivetrain is even tougher, particularly due to the fact the vehicle requirements a new structure. Because of this, the 2021 Ford Mach E will receive an all-new platform. Nevertheless, speculations about the Mustang鈥檚 platform are fake. Mach E will likely receive an all-new and different structure.

Full Review Of The New Ford Mustang Mach 1

Full Review Of The New Ford Mustang Mach 1

Apparently, the Ford development team isn't slacking off any, despite the fact that their Mustang has literally blown the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird out of the muscle-car market. The 2003 Mach 1 makes up for cubic inches with multivalve technology. It uses the 2001 SVT Mustang Cobra's 32-valve, 281-cu.-in. (4.6-liter) V-8. But if you look at the Mach 1's numbers 鈥?305 bhp at 5800 rpm and 320 lb.-ft. The reason is that Ford changed several engine pieces to give the Mach 1 better torque at lower engine speeds, at the sacrifice of peak horsepower. The biggest change is to the higher-flow cylinder heads, which were fitted with intake cams from Ford's 5.4-liter V-8. Different exhaust cams were also added along with a new set of exhaust manifolds matched to the cylinder heads. So while the horsepower number may not look as good as the Cobra's, the Mach 1 has gained 3 lb.-ft. 4000 rpm compared with 4750 for the 2001 Cobra.

In other words, Ford has just improved your chances at the highly coveted stoplight drag wars. As far as exterior design cues go, any resemblance to the 1969 Mach 1 is purely intentional. Flat black is the color of choice for the hood stripe, shaker air inlet, extended front air dam, side stripes and rear wing. The interior changes include "comfortweave" black leather seats (similar to the 1969 car's) and an aluminum shifter ball to work the 5-speed manual transmission (a 4-speed auto is optional). The Mach 1 is more than just a fancy-looking GT with the Cobra's engine stuffed into it. The suspension has been worked over with stiffer springs and Tokico shock absorbers, and the ride height was lowered by a half inch. While it does not use the Cobra's independent rear suspension, the changes improve the Mach 1's handling without giving it a too-harsh ride. And you can take the Mach 1 deeper into corners than a regular GT because it uses the same Brembo brakes as the current Cobra, with the only difference being slightly less aggressive pads.

Ford invited journalists to drive the new Mach 1, along with the supercharged SVT Mustang Cobra and the SVT Focus, on a road course and an autocross. What we found was that the Mach 1 exhibits improved handling over a GT without the need to wind the engine to redline to get the most out of it, as with the previous Cobra. Plus, we found it easy to do burnout launches and powerslides out of the slow corners. Most journalists (myself included) received their best autocross times with the Mach 1, not the high-horsepower Cobra or the little SVT Focus. Attribute this to the lighter, more nimble feel of the Mach 1 over the Cobra and extra power over the Focus. It was a different story on the road course as the huge power and more tied-down feeling of the Cobra gave it a distinct advantage. 28,995, the Mach 1 is considerably cheaper than a Cobra. It also sounds better, as some editors find the supercharger whine to be less than pleasant. The Mach 1, on the other hand, sings out its V-8 tune with all its might, and yes, when you blip the throttle, the air scoop really does shake. If you want a Mach 1, you better get your order in; only 6500 will be built and they are sure to go quickly. Though it probably won't be as collectible as a '69, the 2003 edition is sure fun to drive.

Styling could improve the Rally Sport package, which won for his transparent louvers hidden-headlamp covers. Handling is razor-sharp, with the help of leadership that was quick and had road feel. Four barrel-1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28s could run the quarter mile in 14.8 seconds at 101 mph, but the small block of the shortage of low-end torque is multiplied with double quads, which is fed by sky high revolutions. Even falling into the clutches 4000 rpm mishap occurred in front of the line. As Trans Am titles in 1968 y'69 showed, the Z28 is a road racer first, a second machine in the street. The'69 Z28 is one of the most popular rides aspect of the classic muscle car era, and it showed what it can do to express Chevy stylists performance and emotion. Fuel : 2 x 4 bbl. The 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro 427 is the delicious conversion muscle car need and desire for a factory that, please.

American automaker Ford has unveiled its first-ever electric version of the classic Mustang pony car - but this version has the body of an SUV. The 2020 Mustang Mach E was revealed on Sunday during a live streaming event from Los Angeles by Ford in its first-ever expansion of the Mustang lineup since the classic sports car debuted 55 years years. The number 2 American automaker after General Motors plans to have the Mach E in showrooms next year, and will still offer its current gasoline-powered line up of the Mustang coupe, convertible and special editions, the automaker says. Fully-charged Mach E's will have a range of about 300 miles with an available extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive. The Mach E, like it's gasoline-powered cousin, can still perform, going from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in 'the mid 3-second range,' and an estimated 459 horsepower, according to specs provided by Ford. Fully-charged Mach E's will have a range of about 300 miles with an available extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive.

An all-wheel drive version is also available. 7,500 federal tax credit. 39,000, before applying tax credits. Systems on board the Mach E will guide motorists to public charging stations, recommend where to charge on trips and includes access to more than 12,500 charging stations within the 'FordPass' charging network. The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption', said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford's chief product development and purchasing officer in a released statement. People want a car that's thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle - and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style'. While electric cars have been introduced by several manufacturers, the vehicles haven't really caught on with American consumers. The electric vehicle, or EV, segment grew to 1.8 per cent of the all cars sold in March, up from 1.6 per cent a year before, reports the Edison Electric Institute. Meanwhile, European automakers, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Jaguar, have rolled out electric versions of their SUVs, a segment American consumers have sought more in recent years than smaller-sized sedans, which no longer represent 50 per cent of the market.

Consultancy LMC Automotive predicts that by 2023 there will be 90 mainstream SUV and crossover models on the U.S. 90 luxury models, reports Reuters. While electric cars have been introduced by several manufacturers, the vehicles haven't really caught on with American consumers. Those numbers compare with 2017 levels of 65 mainstream SUV and crossover models and 53 luxury models. Ford is taking the chance that a large, electric version of its classic Mustang will fit in with those models. The original, introduced at the 1964 World's Fair in New York, was an instant hit, offering unprecedented styling and performance that Americans could afford. The concept was dubbed the 'pony car' and included the Camaro from Chevrolet and Challenger from Dodge, among others. Both continue in production today, competing with the Mustang, which soon will be Ford's only car on the market. Ford's Fusion, Fiesta and other car models will soon be out in favor of crossovers, SUVs and pickups. GM and Number 3 automaker Fiat Chrysler are on a similar trend, or expected to be.

During the mid 1980s, the logo changed from the Cougar to a highly stylized letter M (nicknamed 'the Waterfall' by some). This logo was introduced on the all new 1984 Mercury Topaz, and continued on the new-for-1986 Sable, new 1988 Tracer, and the 1988 Grand Marquis. The reason behind this new logo has never been fully explained, but it is still being used today. Another possible explanation is that it is a stylized foot with a small horizontal wing at the top, an allusion to Mercury, Roman messenger of the gods. Since 1999, the Mercury logo has "Mercury" written on the top part of the logo. The revival of the Mercury Marauder in 2003 brought a brief return of the original "God's Head" logo, for that model only. Maynard, Micheline (2010-06-02). Base models adopted high-back bucket seats and full color-keyed interior trim, and all 1980 Mustangs came with brighter halogen headlights (replacing less-efficient tungsten sealed-beams). 625 Carriage Roof, a diamond-grain full vinyl covering set off by black window frames and moldings so as to simulate the top-up appearance of a true convertible. Mustang styling was little changed for sophomore 1980, but this "carriage roof" was newly available to give notchbacks the top-up look of a true convertible -- right down to a simulated rear-window zip. Still available for notchbacks and newly standard on hatchbacks was the Sport Option, again comprised of styled-steel wheels with trim rings, black rocker-panel and window moldings, wide body side moldings, striped rubstrip extensions, and a sporty steering wheel. Cheering enthusiasts, the Pace Car Replica's Recaro bucket seats were optional for any 1980 Mustang. 531 per set, they were genuine Euro-car furniture with reclining backrests and adjustable thigh and lumbar supports -- all much preferable to the fixed-back stock chairs that road-testers still often lamented. Last but not least, Cobra styling was updated with a Pace Car-style slat grille, rear-facing hood scoop, and front and rear spoilers.

Mustang. The 200-cid six was also widely ignored, doubtless because it was so familiar (old, in other words) and far from exotic: seven-main-bearing crankshaft, overhead valves with hydraulic lifters, cast-iron block, a simple one-barrel carburetor. Even so, the straight six still had a place in 1980, being efficient and easy to live with. It had less horsepower than the V-6 it replaced but compensated with greater displacement and torque, so "real-world" performance wasn't that different. And by Ford's "Cost-of-Ownership" formula, where required maintenance for the first 50,000 miles was averaged according to dealer parts and labor prices, the inline six cost less to operate than the V-6, an appreciated plus for inflation-weary buyers. As the original pony car turned 15 years old, it was natural to compare the 1980 Ford Mustang with the one that started it all, the 1965 Ford Mustang. Looking at vital statistics, it was tempting to say little had changed. Though the newest pony was 7.6 inches trimmer in wheelbase, it was only 2.5 inches shorter overall (at 179.1), about an inch wider (at 69.1), and less than 100 pounds heavier (2516 pounds at the curb).

Front passenger space was about equal, but the '80 was much roomier in back, suggesting Ford had learned something about space utilization in all that time. And unlike the '65, the Fox-platform car was burdened with all manner of safety features mandated by the federal government, such as reinforced doors and five-mph bumpers, so Ford had apparently learned something about weight control too. The 1980 Ford Mustang was similar in many respects its predecessor, coming in a little shorter, a little wider, and a little heavier. Engine comparisons were equally interesting. While the 2.3-liter four-cylinder was a Seventies invention, the six cylinder was exactly the same powerplant that was standard in '65 Mustangs (save early cars with the 170-cubic-inch unit). The 255-cubic-inch V-8 was based on the 302, which, in turn, evolved from the 289 that itself was enlarged from the original Mustang's 260. Yet both the six and V-8 now returned much better fuel mileage than their 1965 counterparts. What such comparisons couldn't convey was how much Mustang had changed over 15 years. As we've seen, the stylish sporty compact that won all America's heart was allowed to become too large, too unwieldy, too wasteful.

Ford knew that as well as anyone, hence the far more rational Mustang II. But the Fox generation was far better, deliberately designed to be even closer to the '65 in size, if not character. Then as now, it was the original that defined Mustang for most people. Of course, the Fox-platform version couldn't be a retro copy, because automotive realities had changed greatly since the Sixties. All the more remarkable, then, that it ended up so nimble, attractive, and efficient -- and with a winning charm all its own. Early Mustangs, like the 1966 model seen here, remain a favorite with car lovers, but can't match the safety requirements and interior space of the 1980 model. What the 1979 Mustang couldn't match was the sales success of its 1965 counterpart. Times had changed from the wide-open 1960s, that much was clear. With a new gas crunch triggering another sharp recession, total U.S. 1980. Mustang was not immune but fared reasonably well, tallying 271,322 units.
