Issue:

Extended Life Coolant (XLC) as used on S-TYPE vehicles, entered production on 1999 MY XK8 and V8 XJ Series vehicles at the above VINs.

The new coolant also known as 'Long Life Engine Coolant' can be recognized by its distinctive orange color. 2000 MY vehicles also use the same

coolant, from VIN A00083 (XK8) and from VIN F00108 (V8 XJ Series).

It is necessary that vehicles filled with XLC should be correctly identified, both from the introductory VIN and from the following information, so

that the correct coolant product is used.

RECOGNITION FEATURES

Extended Life Coolant (XLC) is colored orange. Vehicles filled with Extended Life Coolant may also be recognized by labels applied to the header

tank (Illustration 1).

Note that header tank labels may differ in detail from the above illustrations, depending on model variants and Markets.

^ Never top up vehicles filled with "XLC" with earlier-type coolants such as D542 or D985.

Action:

1. Dealers should ensure that they have stock of both D542 and Extended Life Coolant (XLC).

2. Vehicles filled with XLC must be immediately recognized and must be topped-up or refilled with XLC ONLY

3. At Routine Service Intervals where a complete change of coolant is involved, replacement coolant should normally be used on a "like-for-like"

basis.

4. All coolants supplied by Jaguar Parts Operations are supplied in a concentrated form and require dilution with an equal quantity of clean

water, to provide a 50:50 mixture as used in the engine cooling system.
