Situation:



A 'creak' or 'knock' noise may be heard from the front or rear suspension when performing low-speed maneuvers and passing over speed bumps or on



rough roads. This noise may be due to the spring creaking against the spring edge



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to install anti-friction tape to the springs.

Always check DDW to verify that the vehicle has not had the repairs performed as part of UPS4609-2B. Repair procedures are under constant



review and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair



time.



DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.



REPAIR PROCEDURE



APPLY ANTI-FRICTION TAPE TO FRONT SPRINGS



NOTE:



Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > Model > Service Information > 2010 > Workshop Manual



NOTE:



Do not discard the nuts and bolts; in this instance only, the nuts and bolts may be reused on installation as long as they are tightened to the specified



torque values.



1. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 204-01 and remove the left-front shock absorber.



2. Remove the pre-cut anti-friction tape from the protective backing. (Figure 1)



CAUTION:

Ensure there is no grease / oil on the coil springs.



3. Place the anti-friction tape onto the first coil (top) of the spring, aligning the tape to where the coil spring ends. (Figure 2)



4. Ensure the tape is securely pressed onto the spring. (Figure 3)



5. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 204-01 and install the left-front shock absorber.



6. Repeat steps 1 - 5 on the right-front spring.



INSTALL ANTI-FRICTION TAPE TO REAR SPRINGS

1. Refer to Workshop Section (GTR) section 204-02 and remove the left-rear shock absorber.

2. With the spring un-compressed, lift the rubber top mount up. (Figure 4)



CAUTION:



Ensure there is no grease / oil on the coil spring rubber sleeve.



3. Insert the anti-friction tape between the rubber top mount and the coil spring rubber sleeve. (Figure 5)



4. Using the special tool, compress the spring to seat the tape.

NOTE:



Figures 6 - 8 depict the shock absorber assembly inverted (as installed in the special tool).



5. Use a suitable marker to mark the position of the anti-friction tape. (Figure 6)



6. Trim excess material as necessary: (Figure 7)



7. Ensure correct positioning of anti-friction tape. (Figure 8)



8. Refer to Workshop Manual (GTR) section 204-02 and install the left-rear shock absorber.



9. Repeat steps 1 - 8 on the right-rear spring.
