Loaded with technology to the brim, the next generation 7-Series will also debut at the 2016 Auto Expo. U.S. pricing will be announced on March 6, in conjunction with the vehicle’s debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Kia is now working on the next-generation of the product and showcased the concept at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This will be a full-electric vehicle that will be showcased by Jaguar at the 2018 Auto Expo. And it will be an issue for every non-Tesla EV for the foreseeable future. It says a lot about Jaguar's focus that the second SUV in its production history will also be its first electric car. After entering the all-electric Formula E championship this year, Jaguar says it designed and engineered the batteries and the electric motors in-house. Jaguar's new all-electric I-Pace may be one of the brand's most significant breakthroughs. Jaguar's production of its first electric car means it also has to deal with a problem everybody else has been trying to solve: noise, or rather, the lack thereof. If you're interested in the I-Pace as an EV first and a luxury car second, this deficiency will likely eliminate it from your shopping list. The Q501 will use the same LR550 platform used by the Discovery Sport.

Its torque flattens you into the enveloping sport seats slathered in red leather, yet it's responsive without feeling overly caffeinated or neck-snapping. Through multiple sensors it actively measures speed, steering angle and other factors to govern the torque distribution to the rear wheels. With its lithium-ion battery pack and 220-kW (290-horsepower) electric motor, the electric Jaguar roadster (or coupe) accelerates as briskly as a gasoline-powered E-type, has a quoted range of 170 miles, and manages to maintain the original’s weight distribution. It won't need to compromise on range to get its performance, with Jaguar promising the I-Pace will stretch across to 220 miles of range from its 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. Length-wise, it looks like the I-Pace will slot between the smaller E-Pace and the larger F-Pace. Outside of that, it looks a lot like C-X17 Concept that previewed the F-Pace. Engineers switched it to what seems like a pretty general hum sound for production.

Jaguar says it specifically engineered the noise so that it doesn't intrude upon the cabin, so only pedestrians are bothered by the hum when slowly plodding through cities. While the automatic I-Pace is a real-world two-pedal car, Jaguar says it can also be effectively used as a one-pedal car, even in city traffic. As an engineer giddily told us, Alexa can "learn" your behavior, and remind you to do things it detects you doing habitually, like stopping for an unhealthy snack or calling your side piece on your way home from work. Kudos on Zotye for pulling this pretty obvious trick and not falling into the trap of hiding its origins - something most Chinese carmakers seem bent on doing. Geely continues to renew and expand its lineup at breakneck speed, and this sharply-designed Binrui sedan manages an excellent start above 5.000 sales in a depressed context for Chinese sedans. But it truly kicks in under hard acceleration, and continues its portamento for as long as you keep the throttle nailed, which can be a long time in a car with only one gear. The I-Pace's marginally inferior electric efficiency should be a nonissue, especially since luxury car shoppers have rarely been concerned with fuel consumption and cost.

I'm not a huge fan of chrome in general, and while this car is no exception, you can opt for the Blackout Pack, which replaces all the chrome on the car with gloss black paint. This is not just because the handsomely muscular all-wheel-drive crossover can travel 240 miles on a single charge to its 90 kWh battery. On the efficiency front, the I-Pace uses a 90-kilowatt hour lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a driving range of 240 miles (386 kilometers). The under-floor battery pack results in an elevated SUV-like driving position, but the roof is comparatively low. As we've already noted, the Jaguar's 90-kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides a useful range of up to 240 miles between charges. Chevy manages to eke 238 miles out of the Bolt EV's 60kWh battery pack, and Hyundai gets 258 miles from the Kona Electric's 64kWh pack. The nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery is charged through the regenerative charging system, which converts kinetic energy into electric energy and stores it in the battery when applying the brakes or coasting.
