Event: Audi E-tron Introduced

In High Regen mode, simply lifting off the accelerator will cause the vehicle to decelerate sharply—no braking required. In high mode, you can use the throttle to brake (it’ll engage with up to 0.4 g of force), so I wanted to opt for that. In reality, though, not everything works smoothly, curtailing ease of use. But these two poor critters take off just a beat too late, both hitting the solid Jaguar grille right at the leaper on the badge, then deflecting in a spatter of blood and viscera off the windshield. Neither did those two poor bastard birds. Driving the Jaguar I-Pace on a twisty road through the ragged Algarve countryside, I kill at least two birds. In fact, I’d always marveled at how birds always just barely miss getting hit. In fact, with a phone streaming our favorite Spotify playlists into the Meridian audio system using Bluetooth (with our international data plans conserved thanks to in-car Wi-Fi), we didn’t hear much else anyway. The VW Tiguan gains 16% thanks to the addition of the AllSpace 7-seat variant to step up to 2nd place which, if sustained until the end of the year, would be a new record for the nameplate.


In place of lines, each gate was topped by electronic lights that signaled which gate was next—as well as the one that would follow. The interior is well up to Jaguar’s standards, with clean lines that focus the console on two touch screens—a 10.0-inch screen up top and a 5.0-incher down below. The setup uses uses two touchscreens - a larger 10-inch upper screen and a smaller 5.5-inch lower screen - together with physical controls to give users access to a range of features. The climate controls can account for the SUV's passenger count at any given time, adjusting the air and seat climates as needed to conserve the battery and prolong available range. The AI can sense the number of occupants and adjust the climate control accordingly to make it as efficient as possible. He was replaced as FCA chief executive by Jeep and Ram veteran Mike Manley, but many would argue no one can really replace someone like Marchionne. At 2,100kg the I-Pace is definitely a porker, but also like most electric cars, its impressive performance more than makes up for that.


As with all electric cars, weight is something of an issue. The I-Pace is not light—its 4,784 pound curb weight makes it nearly 1,000 pounds heavier than its ICE-powered relative, the F-Pace (the EV's batteries alone weigh 1,329 pounds). But basically all of that weight sits beneath the H-point, including the 432-cell battery, the twin motors, and the HVAC system. The EQ C is powered by two electric engines on the front and rear axle creating an electric all wheel drive system with variable torque distribution of up to 100% on each axle. The I-PACE is powered by dual electric motors with a combined output of 394-hp and 512-lb.-ft. of torque that are mounted at each axle, thus providing all-wheel drive. Now the I-Pace has made its public debut at the Geneva motor show, setting a high bar for other car makers as they launch their own EV efforts in the next few years. That sedan, a "no-holds-barred luxury car" to challenge the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, would provide emissions-free motoring before the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series come with their EV propositions.


Can a Tesla put in 10 laps without overheating or draining the battery to exhaustion? The group of journalists I was with put a combined 12 laps in the I-Pace, and it showed no signs of fatigue. But tracking a car means taking laps. The German new car market is headed towards its biggest year so far this decade with deliveries up 2.9% over the First Half of 2018 to 1.839.031 units. Introducing a new all-electric model on the market isn’t as easy as some might think. Jaguar thinks that Tesla has had the premium electric vehicle market all to itself for too long, but now it and other manufacturers are catching on and releasing their own long-range EV models. This phrase has become the official battle cry of Tesla detractors nationwide. In the battle of the specs, the Audi E-tron packs a 95 kWh battery compared to the Model X’s base 75 kWh one (you can upgrade to a 100 kWh model).


Juice for the motor is supplied by new SUV-sized battery cells that the German automaker has been working on, enabling a promised range for the 70-kilowatt-hour pack of 249 miles on the harmonized Worldwide Light-vehicles Test Cycles (WLTC). The I-Pace is the first Jaguar to get over-the-air updates, which not only update infotainment and vehicle systems but also keep track of battery usage. This is also the first time that a Jaguar has been evaluated in the mud and ruts of the legendary Eastnor test facility in the UK; until now, only Land Rover vehicles have been developed here. It will have the ability to automatically cool down or heat up the batteries while it is being charged to ensure that the car is in peak condition when it is time to set off. A U.S. law that hasn't gone into effect yet will ask manufacturers to keep the noise at up to 18.6 mph, though.
