Could Ford's Mustang-inspired Electric SUV Be Called A Mach E?

Ford irked the Mustang community early this year when it announced that the cherished Mach 1 name would be used on an electric crossover SUV with styling inspired by its iconic pony car. First discovered by The Drive, Ford on November 26 filed trademark protection for 鈥淢ach E鈥?and 鈥淢ach-E鈥?with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. A source with information on Ford's future plans who is not allowed to publicly discuss future products said the Mach E name has been discussed among executives. Motor Authority reached out to Ford for comment on the trademark filings. Early testers for the SUV have been spotted in the wild and Ford in September released a shadowy teaser that showed clear influences from the Mustang in the final design. All Ford will say about the vehicle is that it will have 300 miles of range. We'll add that there's another vehicle Ford has in the pipeline that could be the recipient of the name. Recall, the automaker is working on a Mustang hybrid for 2020 and Mustang Mach E certainly has a nice ring to it.

The description is referring to an interior sound augmentation feature. You have the option to switch it off. Why is it that in the reveal they touted 300 mile range and on the site it states an 鈥淓PA target range of 270 miles鈥? That鈥檚 for the extended range battery by the way. It鈥檚 鈥渕ore than鈥?300 miles for RWD. The 270 is for AWD. As a former Ford owner (4 over 20 years) and having traded both previous Ford cars away, I鈥檓 so pleased to see the Mach-e mustang reveal today. My aging 2013 classic Model S needs replacing and I鈥檓 seriously considering this new Ford. Then again, we are so pleased with Tesla鈥檚 products that it won鈥檛 be an easy switch. Ford is at least on the menu now. And that鈥檚 big progress! Not liking the look of the chunky front end or interior. Will be interesting to see how it compares to the Model Y, once both are in production and out in the wild.

Probably at an auto show late next year or early 2021. Ford typically has a bunch of vehicles available for test drives. Most if not all their hybrid an PHEVs were available for test drives at the auto shows. I wonder what kind of kickback they get for a reservation. I'm thinking of doing one in store to see if they'll give me some form of gift card just for reserving. Probably at an auto show late next year or early 2021. I wonder if Ford is going to go the route others do and lock out the top end of the battery so that you can charge to 100% daily.

Downside is you never get the option of a range charge, but upside is the 300 mile range might actually be what you charge it to daily vs 90% of 300 ala Tesla. 33K after tax incentives should sell plenty of them. More of a competitor to Bolt and Model 3 then Model Y. I prefer the Model Y because 3 rows is useful to me. Lots of features compared to the Bolt, like lane centering and stop and go adaptive cruise control. If dealers have one of course. Ipace yesterday at the Seattle Auto Show. Ford typically has a huge presence at auto shows. For those saying you don't pay MSRP at dealers you are correct. If a car is popular you will pay more than MSRP. The only issues I have with it are the name they shouldn't have used Mustang, and the charging speed. I'm hoping Ford is planning on making them in larger numbers, I also hope they release the number of reservations they get. I was surprised they are going to do over the air updates I figured the dealers would find a way to prevent that. I was also surprised they didn't try to find smaller people for the test ride around the track. If I was going to be claiming it seats 5 I wouldn't want the video making it look like they are packed in like sardines. No, create an account now. When it arrives in late 2020, Mustang Mach-E will be available with standard and extended-range battery options with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive powered by permanent magnet motors. Equipped with an extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive, Mach-E has a targeted EPA-estimated range of at least 300 miles (483 km). In extended-range all-wheel-drive configurations, Mach-E is targeting 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. 60 mph than the base Porsche Macan series. Ford also will offer two special performance versions. The GT is targeting 0-60 mph in under 4 seconds, making it faster off the line than a Porsche Macan Turbo. The GT Performance Edition, meanwhile, is targeting a comparable 0-60 mph in the mid-3-second range to a Porsche 911 GTS. Both GT configurations are targeting an estimated 342 kW (459 horsepower) and 830 Nm (612 lb.-ft.) of torque. 500 reservation deposit. A limited First Edition will be available in extended-range all-wheel drive, with red painted brake calipers, metallic pedal covers, contrasting seat stitching and a scuff plate marked First Edition.
