Fumes in cabin

2008 2.7Pl

I have recently noticed the smell of what I can only describe as engine fumes in the cabin.

To date I have been unable to tie it down to any particular reason or time when this occurs, other than possibly sometimes when I first start off cold & yesterday being the latest occurrence when I had driven for approx. 80 miles with the heater fan on only 2 bars, then stopped at traffic lights & turned the fan up to 3/4 max.I then immediately noticed what I thought was a smell of fumes...
