Its design does not look out of date, but the technology inside feels it, especially when compared to the latest and greatest from other European brands. It reacts quickly and feels a bit tail happy. It also has a layer of BMW numbness that’s a bit disappointing. The second row is tight, although the XE’s 35 inches of legroom is comparable to the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. In the second of those two fields, Bottas is the leading contender. Other than that, the X-Type 2.1 offers a well rounded, if slightly underpowered, package that’s well suited to those entering the prestige car market, or looking for a capable, quality, second vehicle. It offers multiple solid powertrain options, and the new flashy styling is backed up by great tech and upscale interior. It may not be a Toyota underneath, but there’s no arguing with how great it is to both look and drive. The little, rounded cube is as cute and good to look at as it is useful and pleasing to drive. Nicer to drive than the Wrangler on-road and just as capable off, the Bronco checks every box you’d expect from a modern off-roader. The first of those two is the new Ford Bronco.
