It's no sports car, but the firm suspension and responsive steering mean it's pretty damn good in a corner. While the automatic I-Pace is a real-world two-pedal car, Jaguar says it can also be effectively used as a one-pedal car, even in city traffic. Jaguar still has Tesla beat in the luxury game. Tesla has been in the electric game a lot longer than Jaguar, and has developed efficiencies that surpass many of its rivals in both range and performance. The differences in range can have a bit to do with performance metrics. Waymo and Jaguar have entered into a partnership to build these autonomous EVs, and the vehicles will go into service this year. Krafcik began the livestream, which you can see above, by telling stories of Waymo riders in Pheonix, including one who witnessed a fatal accident as a youngster, but now takes an autonomous Waymo vehicle to work. Waymo will add up to 20,000 autonomous I-Paces in the first two years, capable providing about a million trips per day.
The conversion replaces the six-cylinder E-type ICE with a 295-hp electric motor powered by a 40 kWh battery, providing a range of about 170 miles. The vehicle has a range of 234 miles from its 90kWh battery pack, according to the EPA's tests. A battery pack with extended range will be offered in the future. Both the base Model X and I-Pace have similar ranges, but Tesla does so on a much smaller battery. Tanks were lasting just over 300 miles, meaning we were going to have to stop at least twice as often as we did with the XE. The ride was firm but not as bad as I imagined it might be, at least once we got off of Michigan's pockmarked pavement. Once we got to Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway, I was happy to have that fuel-sucking supercharged V6 under the hood. It'll be interesting to see how much EV buyers care about the Jaguar's comparatively poor MPGe ratings, but they will definitely have an impact in the real world.
The I-Pace is an exceptional pure electric luxury SUV from Jaguar that can handle real offroading and a day at the track just as well as a night out on the town. Not just because it's the only real luxury SUV that runs totally on batteries, it's also a very good vehicle. I've driven the car for a few hours already and am already a fan of its capabilities on paved roads and the luxury interior. This portion of the two-day drive was clearly the result of the automaker borrowing off-road capabilities from its sister company, Land Rover, and sticking it in the cat. Now I'm about to drive the crossover on a "surprise" off-road course and sure, why not. Back on the off-road course in southern Portugal, the I-Pace made short work of the water obstacle. In addition to the two cupholders in the console, the door pockets have space for water bottles. A gentleman in a field peeks into the car and asks me to raise the height of the red First Edition I-Pace I'm driving then gestures towards a few feet of water ahead of me.
In Jaguar’s case, they have currently delivered fewer than 5,000 I-PACE SUVs to date and this is the first reported case of one catching on fire. Worldwide, the Tesla Model X is simply one of the top selling electric vehicles, up there with the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, BYD Qin and BAIC EC-Series. The E-Pace’s under-floor area is completely taken up by the spare tire, so there’s no extra stowage space there. There are also larger, 21.66-gallon fuel tanks for the 250- and 300-horsepower Ingenium I4 cars, the 380-hp V6 version and the SVR, to improve range. The trip average dropped to about 20 mpg, but I was more worried about the frequent fuel stops than the overall average. AM: As electric racing develops more and there are different brands of electric cars running against each other, will you bump the power on the stock motor? In Low Regen, the I-Pace behaves more like a conventional vehicle, coasting once you’ve lifted off the accelerator. The automaker’s racing effort was last seen with its tail between its legs following the 2004 F1 season, which, like the four before it, did not go well, resulting in its abandonment. Fuel economy was fine, but I was just meeting the EPA estimate, not beating it like I usually manage to do.
