ISSUE
Content
When a new vehicle is received dealers must check the battery condition within 24hrs of
receipt. It has been noted that some dealers are not completing the checks correctly,
this leads to incorrect measurements.
CAUSE
Incorrect process
ACTION
To ensure an accurate measurement is obtained you must adhere to the following
process:-
1. Unlock and open the vehicle using the key blade
2. Press the hazard switch to activate the vehicle and then press the luggage
compartment release switch.
3. Open luggage compartment lid&remove battery trim covers. (For F Type use SDD to
remove vehicle from transportation mode prior to checking).
4. Remove the transit relay from the vehicle and retain for re-fitment.
5. Has the vehicle been running or the battery charged in the last 24 hours?
If "YES" go to action 5.b
If "NO" go to action 6.
5.b Remove the surface charge i.e Leave headlights on for 3 mins and then
leave the battery to stabilize for 5 mins.
6. Disconnect the vehicle earth from the battery lead and place to the side.
7. Connect an approved EXP-1080 directly to the battery negative&positive posts.

8. Conduct the battery test ensuring the correct details are entered into the battery
tester (always use the information provided on the battery label)
9. If the test result equals "Good battery" go to action 10. If the battery test
result equals "Recharge Retest", note the recommended recharge time and go to
action 9.a
9.a Move the vehicle into the workshop, locate JLR approved charger from the
storage area, place the negative lead from charger onto Chassis earth, place
the positive lead from the charger directly onto the battery positive post
(with transit relay removed). Switch the charger on and allow the battery to
charge (always adhere to the charge time as recommended by the EXP-1080)
When the recommended time has elapsed switch the charger off and remove
leads. Go to action 5.
10. Refit the transit relay and return the vehicle to transit mode where applicable
11. Document all results on the new vehicle storage document, set reminder for next
check.

NOTE: Do not test or charge the battery with the transit relay fitted.
NOTE: If the vehicle is to be stored the transit relays MUST be refitted or the
vehicle returned to transport mode.
