Advance Notice Of Global Vehicle Identification Number - 2000 MY

ISSUE:

The Jaguar S-TYPE, to be introduced early in 1999 as a 2000 MY vehicle, will use a new format of Vehicle Identification Number - the "global"

VIN. Current XK8 and V8 XJ Series Models will adopt the global format from the start of 2000 MY production in the summer of 1999.

While the global VIN system retains a total of 17 characters, as used on current Jaguar models, there is a change to the sequence in which alpha and

numeric characters can occur.

The VIN coding for the Jaguar S-TYPE will be typically in the format:

SAJDA01GXYFL12345

It is anticipated that S-TYPE VINs will run from LOOOO1 - L99999, then M00001 - M99999, etc.

From the start of 2000 MY production, the VIN serial number for XK8 Models will start with A00001 and run to A99999, then B00001 etc. For V8

XJ Series from 2000

MY the VIN serial number will start with F00001.
