Steering Wheel - Replace Leather Steering Wheel With Wood & Leather Steering Wheel - Service Action S106

Issue:

Due to the huge worldwide demand for the new S-TYPE, some vehicles within VIN range L04098-L28711 were built with a leather rimmed steering

wheel, rather than the wood and leather steering wheel originally specified. Jaguar has identified each vehicle that will require the installation of a

replacement wheel. Each dealership will receive a listing of all vehicles affected that have been retailed by that dealership. All the necessary parts

will be automatically shipped to the dealership on a free of charge basis.

Action:

Replace leather rimmed steering wheel with the wood and leather steering wheel as originally specified as standard equipment.

PROCEDURE FOR REPLACING LEATHER STEERING WHEELS

1. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE LEAD FROM THE BATTERY. IT MUST REMAIN DISCONNECTED UNTIL STEP 16 OF THIS

PROCEDURE.

2. Allow 1 minute to elapse for air bag circuitry to disarm before continuing.

3. Remove the plastic covers to gain access to the two screws that retain the driver's air bag. Remove the screws.

4. Lift the air bag until its multiplug can be disconnected and place the air bag clear of the working area.

5. Disconnect the multiplug from the horn switch.

6. Loosen, but do not remove completely, the 4 screws that retain the horn switch. The screws should remain in the horn switch as they do not

need to be fully backed out to remove the horn switch from the steering wheel.

7. Loosen (but do NOT remove) the steering wheel securing Torx bolt. (4 - 5 turns).

8. Fit the drive screw of puller (Special Tool 303-D121) into the cupped end of JD10/2. Align the flat side on the head of the retaining bolt of the

steering wheel. Operate the puller in the two leg configuration to release the steering wheel from the taper on the column. It may be necessary

to prevent the steering wheel screw from rotating by holding the bolt with pliers.

9. Remove the puller from the wheel; remove and discard the steering wheel securing bolt. Remove the steering wheel.

10. Align and install the replacement steering wheel, threading the multiplugs and harness through the wheel.

11. Install a NEW steering wheel securing screw and fully tighten it. Torque wrench setting: 35 Nm.

12. Connect the air bag multiplug, align the air bag and install and tighten the securing screws. Torque wrench setting: 9 Nm.

13. Reinstall the plastic covers to the air bag securing screw apertures.

14. Reconnect the battery.

15. Reset the clock.
