NUMBER: JTB00082

(ISSUE 1)

MODEL: S-TYPE

DATE: 13 FEB 2008

Rear Park Aid Inoperative/Warning Lamp On - Repair Procedure

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

S-TYPE VIN: L00600 - N13088

Model Year: 2000 - 2004

CONDITION SUMMARY:

THE REAR PARK AID IS INOPERATIVE, WARNING LAMP ON, AND/OR SOUNDER OPERATES CONTINUOUSLY

Situation:

A condition where corrosion of the parking aid module harness connector and terminals may be due to water ingress into the luggage compartment.

NOTE:

Bulletin S501 - 09V2 MUST be carried out if any evidence of water intrusion is found prior to performing the Repair Procedure outlined in this

bulletin.

Action:

If a customer should express the above concern, repair the vehicle by carrying out a lower level of repair through the use of an overlay harness

instead of the complete vehicle harness by following the Repair Procedure outlined below.

Parts

WARRANTY:

NOTE:

Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only.

Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

NOTE:

The repair overlay harness XR8 57783 is based on the 2003MY - 2004MY body harness wiring and wiring colors. You should be aware of the

following specific differences when using the harness on the two applicable S TYPE VIN ranges. Also refer to the relevant rear parking aid

wiring diagram in the electrical guide section JJM 10 38 16/10 and the wiring harness repair guide JTP 586 within GTR.

USE OF THE OVERLAY HARNESS ON VEHICLES FROM VIN L00600 TO M45254

^ CA112-1 - W/U will splice into the K/Y wire of the original vehicle body harness on the right-hand (RH) side of the luggage compartment area.

^ CA112-5 - W will splice into the slate/red wire of the original vehicle body harness on the RH side of the luggage compartment area.

^ CA112-7 - W/U and CA112-19 W/P for the roof module rear parking aid switch. Each of these wires will require cutting and splicing into the

body harness in a convenient position, as there is no in line connector in the luggage compartment area. The wiring runs directly to the roof

console module connector RF 34.

^ CA112-8 - B/R pre-terminated wire for 'trailer connected' input is redundant for this VIN range.

^ CA112-14 - W and CA112-17 - N, pre-terminated wires for the rear parking aid sounder. These will require cutting and splicing into the body

harness at a convenient position. Connector CA4 is not present, as the wiring goes directly to the park aid sounder.

^ CA112-3 - B will require cutting and splicing into the body harness in a convenient position in the routing to ground point CA156 located at RH

side rear adjacent to the rear electronic module (REM).

USE OF THE OVERLAY HARNESS ON VEHICLES FROM VIN M45255 TO N13088

^ CA112-7 - W/U and CA112-19 W/P for the roof module rear park aid switch are redundant for this VIN range.

^ CA112-8 - B/R pre-terminated wire for 'trailer connected' input is used and routed to connector TT1 on the right-hand (RH) side of the luggage

compartment area.

^ CA112-3 - B will require cutting and splicing into the body harness in a convenient position in the routing to ground point CA158 located on the

left-hand side of the luggage compartment inner rear panel.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REMOVING THE DAMAGED REAR PARK AID HARNESS

1. Disconnect battery ground cable (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 414-01).

2. Remove the luggage compartment trim panel. (Figure 1)

NOTE:

Check that the luggage compartment floor 'drain valve grommet' is correctly installed, ref S501-09V2. (Page 9, steps 1 - 9). To be carried

out as a separate Warranty Claim.

3. Remove the spare wheel.

4. Remove both luggage compartments end trim panels. (Figure 2)

NOTE:

6. Cut back the harness tape to expose the left-hand side body harness wiring. (Figure 4)

7. Cut back harness tape to expose the right-hand side body harness wiring. (Figure 5)

8. Remove the rear parking aid sensor connector CA112, and tape back. (Figure 6)

2000 Jaguar S-Type (X200) V6-3.0L Page 349

9. Locate and release the bumper connector BR1 from its location, release the male/female halves of BR1. (Figure 7)

INSTALLING THE OVERLAY HARNESS

1. Lay the overlay harness in position and connect the new CA112 connector.

2. At the vehicle harness side of BR1 remove the original wires from BR1-3 (Y), BR1-4 (W), BR1-5 (W/U), BR1-8 (N), BR1-9 (W/R) and

BR1-10 (W/G). Replace with the corresponding pre-terminated overlay harness wires from CA112.

NOTE:

For VIN range L00600 - M45254 - there is no connector CA4. Trace back and locate wires from CA112 -14 (W) and CA112-17 (N) on

the original vehicle harness. Find a suitable position and cut and splice corresponding wires from the overlay harness.

NOTE:

For VIN range L00600 - M45254 Wires CA112-7 -W/U and CA112-19 - W/P for the roof module rear parking aid switch. Each of these

wires will require cutting and splicing into the corresponding body harness wires in a convenient position, as there is no in-line connector

in the luggage compartment area, as the wiring runs directly to the roof console module connector RF 34.

2000 Jaguar S-Type (X200) V6-3.0L Page 350

3. For vehicle from VIN M45255 - N13088, locate and release connector CA4.

4. Remove and replace wires CA-4 (W) and CA4-9 (N) with the corresponding overlay harness wires from CA112-14(W) and CA112-17 (N).

5. For vehicles from VIN L00600 - M45254, splice the overlay ground wire CA112-3 (B) to the ground wire terminating at CA156. For vehicles

from VIN M45255 - N13088, splice the overlay ground wire CA112-3 (B) to the ground wire terminating at CA158. (Figure 8)

6. Splice CA112-9 (W/R) wire to the corresponding W/R reverse lamp wire from the left-hand rear lamp cluster connector. (Figure 9)

2000 Jaguar S-Type (X200) V6-3.0L Page 351

7. Locate the overlay harness un-terminated wires CA112-1 (W/U), CA112-5 (W) and run to RH side of the luggage compartment. Splice these

wires to the corresponding vehicle harness wires at the right-hand side of the luggage compartment. Refer to overlay harness connection chart

shown above. (Figure 10)

8. For vehicles from VIN M45255 - N13088 Locate the trailer connector TT1 (taped back in harness if a vehicle tow bar is not fitted). (Figure

11)

9. Remove TT1-2 (B/R) wire and replace with corresponding pre terminated overlay harness wire.

10. With suitable tape, insulate the stripped areas of the harness.

11. Install both luggage compartment side liners.

12. Install both luggage compartments end trim panels.

13. Install the spare wheel.

14. Install the luggage compartment trim panel.

15. Connect battery ground cable (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 414-.
